Twice a winner last autumn, ran well in a competitive handicap at Cheltenham when last seen (in November) and goes well fresh, so has that in his favour. Will find this a bit easier too, and with drop back to 2m no issue, looks a player.
In decent form in novice hurdles in the winter, although arguably ought to have won at least one more than he has. Fairly enough treated on early season form off this mark but yard not exactly banging the winners in, so there are questions to answer
Looked a horse going places when an easy winner at Wetherby on latest start, not given a hard time to win a comfortable 5l. Handicapper didn't take kindly to it, with another 12lb rise, but no saying where his ceiling is. Big chance.
Has won his share this season, and continued his good form with another game win at Wetherby on his latest start. Trip and ground ideal once more, and although this is tougher, hard to say he's finished improving yet.
Have to go back a couple of years to find her last win (when with Ruth Jefferson), performed poorly on first start for this yard at Hexham, although heavy ground a possible excuse. Well treated at present, but others have more appealing profiles.
Early days with this one, represents powerful connections but so far, has looked a little limited, and finished off very weakly at Wincanton last time. Drop back to 2m may help for handicap debut and too soon to write off.
Well into the veteran stage now, have to go back to 2016 to find the last time he visited the winners enclosure (and that was on the flat). Useful once upon a time but those days look long gone, and has an absence to overcome here too.
Looked on the up when taking a Kempton handicap in November but below par at Market Rasen when last seen (in February) and hard to find an excuse for that disappointing display. May bounce back here, but has to.
First start for new yard, four times a winner for Iain Jardine in 2018 and worth noting he was second to Dino Velvet in this last year. 13lb higher this time around, but knows how to win, and with conditions fine, chances if fit after a break.
Irish raider, overall strike rate of 4-40 not the most convincing but these conditions do suit him best, and he wasn't disgraced at Limerick when last seen. This mark means he needs a bit more, and in truth, easy enough to look elsewhere.
Had ability for Charles Hills on the Flat (rated 76), has shown some aptitude for hurdling but equally a bit disappointing he's not off the mark by now. Not disgraced in a competitive event at Newbury last time, and should do better at some point.
Forecasts
Deyrann de Carjac (3/1), Champagne Mystery (7/2), Theatre Legend (5/1), Equus Millar (5/1), Suggestion (10/1), Chaparral Prince (12/1), Our Lucas (14/1), Fairway Freddy (16/1), Roachdale House (25/1), Kelka (25/1), Alphabetical Order (50/1)
Theatre Legend looks the big improver in the field and it will be a surprise if we have seen the best of him, and however you look at the race he has to take high rank. Chaparral Prince hasn't fired as yet but it's possible he could go from the front here (not that much pace on) and that could lead to an improved showing. Our Lucas has probably been lined up for another crack at this and if fit, is one to consider, but the vote goes to EQUUS MILLAR, another probably saved for a spring campaign and given his propensity to go well fresh, today might be the time to catch him.
- Equus Millar
- Theatre Legend
- Our Lucas
