Handicap winner at Cheltenham (3m1f, good) for Dan Skelton as recently as October but appeared to lose his way after that. Now trying his luck in hunter chases producing two poor efforts (laboured last time); others appeal more.

9/4
Dual course winner (one over this trip) that C&D win coming in a novices' hunter chase on his first start since leaving David Pipe. Flopped straight after that his doubtful temperament again to the form; decent point-to-point second recently.

Multiple point-to-point winner (14-29); won on his Rules debut in a C&D hunter chase back in 2016. Only seen once more under Rules since that win (let down by his jumping at Cheltenham); won his most recent point-to-point by 25L under today's rider.

Fair handicap chaser in his pomp but gradually lost his way for Oliver Sherwood. Yet to convince that he's back to anywhere near his former self in point-to-points or hunter chases; well beaten last time, looks of limited interest.

13/2
Winning Irish point-to pointer who had struggled to follow up in that sphere before he gained a shock win (25-1) in a Hexham maiden hurdle (tongue-tie on first-time) overcoming a lengthy break. Interesting to see what he can do for his new yard.

25/1
Not run under Rules since he was pulled-up in a Wexford handicap chase (July 2017). 3-9 in point-to-points since then for his current yard but was hammered 25L by Dicky Bob at Kilworthy recently; little chance of reversing that form.

33/1
Had been struggling in point-to-points prior to landing a hunter chase over C&D in May 2017 (failed in two subsequent similar events). Very lightly-raced in point-to-points since then but did win his latest start in that sphere (weak form).

Forecasts

Dicky Bob (1/1), Herbert Park (9/4), Glen Roe (13/2), Sam Red (8/1), Heaney (25/1), Mountain Cliche (33/1), Financial Climate (40/1)

Verdict

Respect has to be given to Sam Red especially given the fact that he was winning a Cheltenham handicap chase some six months ago but there must be some doubt as to whether he can replicate that sort of performance now. Herbert Park has already proved himself around here in this sphere and his recent pointing second was franked by the winner recently his temperament remains a question mark. Glen Roe is very much the unknown quantity but a repeat of his Hexham hurdles run would see him go close. DICKY BOB hasn’t had much experience under Rules but his point-to-point form makes him the pick of this bunch especially his recent 25L hammering of Heaney.
  1. Dicky Bob
  2. Glen Roe
  3. Herbert Park
