Takes a drop in class after finishing well beaten at Haydock last time but had previously won easily at Wetherby (second a winner since). The worry would be the ground, as all three wins have come with some cut. On that, others make more appeal.

More letters than numbers in recent form and still looks plenty high enough in the weights due to his 18l victory at Chepstow last October. ground and trip fine but ran poorly here two starts back, and a bit to prove at present.

Got hit with a 9lb rise for his Musselburgh win in February and found life a bit harder at Carlisle last time, although still ran well. This will probably be the quickest ground he's faced and asks a new question, as does the track.

Great record at the track (four times a winner here) and mark looks fine. Needs to put a moderate effort here last time behind him but better ground will help, and if returning to his previous form when third at Southwell, should go close.

Was a long-time maiden before breaking his duck over C&D last October and followed that up with anther at Taunton. Likes quick ground, has the champion jockey booked and appears to be coming back to form. Plenty to like about his chances.

Three pulled ups from his last four rings alarm bells but there was a win over this C&D in the middle of it to raise hopes. Might find this ground lively enough and could need this after a short break, so others preferred.

Forecasts

Copperfacejack (9/4), Grand Introduction (11/4), Mahler Lad (4/1), Riddlestown (6/1), Bassarabad (10/1), Definitly Grey (10/1)

Verdict

Riddlestown enjoys himself here and if you can forgive a poor effort last time out, has a chance of making it win number five at the track, but preference is for COPPERFACEJACK, who is pretty consistent and has already won for Richard Johnson. With ideal conditions, he can score again. Mahler Lad wouldn't be out of this if he can handle the likely quicker ground.
  1. Copperfacejack
  2. Riddlestown
  3. Mahler Lad
