Almost two years since his last victory and he has rarely threatened to add to his four career victories since. Blinkers tried here, but one to avoid until showing he retains any enthusiasm for the sport.
Best effort over hurdles came on heavy ground so possible these conditions will produce improvement on more recent efforts. Lacks pace but his stamina may be an asset around here, so not one to rule out completely and stable took this in 2016.
Running consistently well over fences and hurdles whilst remaining feasibly treated. Handles heavy ground and obviously suited to the demands of stiff right-handed tracks having scored at Leicester and Exeter in the past.
Bumped into an improving unexposed sort last time and is pushed up 3lb in the weights. Remains feasibly treated and goes well here. Would not want conditions to turn heavy and likely to be in the picture once more if conditions remain as forecast.
Has not shown much since his return to action and a hood is tried this time. Hard to fancy until promising more.
Has won here in similar conditions but recent form is less appealing. All five of his victories have come in this grade and he was well supported ahead of his last victory a year ago. 4lb below that mark now and worth a market check.
Normally a safe and steady jumper whose best form in this country has come in the spring. Came in for support on penultimate start when he would have finished second before losing his rider. Out of his depth last time, but this more like it.
Forecasts
Daveron (5/2), Norse Light (7/2), Pembroke House (11/2), Barney From Tyanee (6/1), Heurtevent (7/1), Mr Bachster (7/1), Skipping On (14/1)
There are few reliable options in this race with Daveron and Mr Bachster both out of sorts of late but more than capable if the market signals turned positive. Heurtevent catches the eye as he was supported for a similarly weak race two outings ago and he would have finished second but for a late blunder. His stable are running into form and he would count as another for whom support would be significant. Pembroke House is usually thereabouts, whilst finding one or two too good and it could be a similar story again. Barney From Tyanee appeals as the type to appreciate this stiff circuit, but the vote goes to NORSE LIGHT. The seven-year-old has proven himself to be suited to stiff right-handed circuits and heavy ground. He remains well-handicapped despite his consistency this winter and can take advantage of a good piece of placing by connections.
- Norse Light
- Heurtevent
- Barney From Tyanee
