Mopping up in these type of events since joining this trainer in 2016., and now a 15 time winner from 64 career starts. No problems with track, trip or ground, and looks in a different league to these rivals.
Pulled up at Catterick on Wednesday on his first start since July 2014 (tailed off from the fourth hurdle). This veteran has no chance whatsoever in this contest, or any other for that matter.
With convictions stacking up since winning under an unbelievable ride by Thomas Dowson at Hexham in May (3m good), this ten-year-old finally drops into selling company. Holds a better chance than some, but no chance with Ascendant at the weights.
A four time AW winner (7f to 1m+), he gradually trained off for Phil Kirby, and hasn't picked up the baton for Chris Grant. Goes hurdling for the first time wearing a hood, but telling that this is at the basement level.
His completion figures make for dismal reading since winning a 3m Beginners Chase for Nigel Hawke at Exeter in October 2016 (good to firm), and for that reason he makes no appeal on just his third start for this trainer, despite the drop in grade.
Has mixed hurdling with fencing, losing his way over the larger obstacles (fell twice) since winning a minor event at Southwell in July (2m good). Holds no secrets from anyone, but could make the frame in a woeful contest.
Impossible to recommend on all known form, and has performed particularly poorly this term (failed to complete in three starts). No obvious reason to expect any improvement.
Forecasts
Ascendant (8/15), Rock Of Leon (7/2), Roman Numeral (10/1), Quadriga (12/1), Captain Sharpe (25/1), My Brown Eyed Girl (25/1), Atlas Peak (25/1)
A truly turgid affair, which is best demonstrated by the presence of a 13-year-old who hadn't raced for over 3½ years until lining up at Catterick on Wednesday (Atlas Peak). Therefore, this looks an absolute gift for the 120-rated ASCENDANT. He has been mopping up in these type of races since joining Johnny Farrelly, and he's not likely to ever find a more dismal seller anywhere than this particular contest.
