4/1
Four time career winner (including at this track) who often travels strongly through his races. Took advantage of a fair mark at Pontefract in late May (1m good) but despite being on the premises since (third here latest) has looked just handicapped out of it for now.

5/1
Improving with racing this season and finished a neck second over an extended 1m at Nottingham (good) in early May. Not at his best on his final start for Richard Whitaker, and joins a new stable (who also saddles Mon Beau Visage) looking very much one to keep an eye on.

Finished seventh of 16 to Carnageo in the Carlisle Bell last month in the first time visor (retained). This looks easier and he's slipped to a winnable mark. 1m AW winner at Newcastle in February.

Lord Reason12

11/1
Returned from a winter break when making all and holding on tenaciously to score by a short-head at Epsom (1m½f) earlier this month. Raised 4lb to a career high mark and seems to go best fresh (won second time back in 2016).

Make On Madam12
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-7| J: P J McDonald| T: J L Eyre| OR:  73| CD
12/1
Decisive C&D winner in April from a 12lb lower mark which in theory makes her vulnerable from this mark, but has run some solid races in defeat here since, including when beaten a neck by Talent Scout over a shorter trip late last month. Not discounted despite another slight rise in the weights.

Big Time Dancer20
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-1| J: Martin Lane| T: B Ellison| OR:  67| CD
4/1
Unbeaten in two starts for this trainer in 2016 after leaving Dianne Sayer. The first of those victories came over C&D in August, and he backed that up under a penalty seven days later at Hamilton. Looked in need of the race in the Carlisle Bell Consolation on his recent return to action and interesting despite being 8lb above his last winning mark.

Valley of Rocks10

4/1
Made it eighth time lucky when seeing off Shearian by 1½L at Leicester ten days ago (1m good to firm). Up 4lb in a stronger contest, but always impossible to rule out further improvement for any horse from this yard once the winning run commences.

Mont Royal28
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: A Mullen| T: Ollie Pears| OR:  68
12/1
Six race maiden who is yet to contest a race beyond 7f. Not masses of mileage on the clock and his current mark might be a fair one assuming that this step up in trip can bring about improvement, and that looked a distinct possibility when fourth to Tanawar at Thirsk last month.

Forecasts

Mon Beau Visage (4/1), Big Time Dancer (4/1), Valley of Rocks (4/1), Pumaflor (5/1), Worlds His Oyster (11/2), Lord Reason (11/1), Mont Royal (12/1), Make On Madam (12/1)

Verdict

A very competitive renewal of the Irishbigracetrends Handicap in which half of the eight strong field are separated by just 2lb in the weights. On jockey bookings Pumaflor appears to be the O'Meara second string, but commands much respect given his trainers reputation of excelling with newly acquired horses. Lord Reason's Epsom success might have just knocked the edge off him for now (best caught fresh), whilst Worlds His Oyster looks on a winnable mark if the visor continues to help his momentum. However, the focus should be on the lightly raced Big Time Dancer who will be sharper for his recent reappearance and the slow developing three-year-old VALLEY OF ROCKS. Whilst he has something to find on all known form, he has the look and feel of a typical Johnston improver now that he has managed to get his head in front, and can be supported at small stakes in an open contest.
  1. Valley of Rocks
  2. Big Time Dancer
  3. Worlds His Oyster
