Cost 200,000gns as a yearling, this fellow made a pleasing debut at Goodwood at the start of this month; wasn't beaten far and sure to have benefited from the experience. Going the right way and has to be of interest here. Proven ability to act on firm ground a big plus.

Bred to get a bit further and ran accordingly on debut at Chester. May need a bit more time and a further step up in trip to be seen at his best.

Half-brother to a 6f/7f winner, made on a modest start at Newcastle last month but showed improvement when dropped back to 5f and switched to turf at Ripon 17 days ago. Yard still going well and one to bear in mind if supported in the betting. Qualifies for a mark after this so still retains scope for handicapping.
Cost £55,000, was well beaten on debut at Ayr and in a subsequent start at Beverley. Better effort latest at Ripon but still created the impression that another furlong won't go amiss. This step up in trip should suit but firm ground a worry.

Cost 95,000 gns, the colt is a half-brother to a winner over 7f/1m on turf in the USA. His dam won over this trip as a juvenile, so the portents look good on paper. Yard relatively quiet, but still worth a check in the betting.

Purchased for 120,000gns as a yearling, very modest on debut but did improve to finish third latest - just a neck behind Go Now Go Now at Ripon earlier in the month. Tried to make all on that occasion but ran out of steam inside the final furlong. Pedigree suggests the step up in trip will help but needs to improve for the fitting of a tongue tie.
Half-brother to 6f winner The Armed Man (won at Thirsk on Tuesday but took a long time for him to get off the mark before then). Yard not really noted for first-time out juvenile winners and may be safest to just take notes this time.

Forecasts

Collateral (11/10), Gangland (4/1), Go Now Go Now (6/1), Pacific Fleet (13/2), Shaheen (15/2), Gabrial The Devil (16/1), Situation (25/1), The Gingerbreadman (80/1)

Verdict

COLLATERAL looks the percentage call on the evidence available, as he shaped with plenty of promise on debut and looked well at ease during the race. The improvement expected makes him very much the one to beat. Gangland is worth another shot at this level before switching to handicaps, while Pacific Fleet appeals as an interesting recruit that is worth noting for signs of support. Go Now Go Now and Shaheen are hard to split on the form of their recent encounter at Ripon but may improve this additional furlong, so also merit a betting check.
