His last success came over this trip at Ludlow in April 2016 from a mark of 114 (good to soft), and he has tried hurdling, flat racing and chasing to no avail since. Probably didn't quite stay at Cartmel latest, and this race is weaker, but disconcerting to see him racing at this kind of level.
Off the mark at the ninth attempt in this grade at Wetherby in March (2m5f good), but seemingly below that level of form back there the following month. Given a short break since, but this trip looks plenty sharp enough, especially in light of the fast drying racing surface.
Regularly on the premises since winning a 2m4f Worcester novices hurdle in June 2016, but not quite good enough to win from marks north of 115. Tried fences at Stratford last month, but that didn't appear to suit, so now dropped to selling company in search of that elusive second career success.
Has had 23 attempts at shedding the maiden tag, but admittedly is less exposed over hurdles (0 from 7). Not raced over hurdles since May 2016, but rated just 65 and difficult to draw any optimism from his more recent chasing exploits.
A nine race career maiden, and largely disappointing over hurdles so far. Has raced over longer trips than this in his last three races, and it's possible that he'll come on for his recent Newton Abbot outing (first start for almost six months), but a worry that he now drops into selling company wearing a visor.
Forecasts
Sand Blast (5/4), King Muro (13/8), Newstart (4/1), Atlantic King (20/1), Sussex Road (150/1)
With previous selling hurdle winner Newstart likely to struggle over this shorter trip, this narrows the field of likely winners down to just two. King Muro has had a mixture of assignments since winning at Ludlow in April 2016, so preference is for the consistent SAND BLAST. Fencing never looked likely to suit Dan Skelton's six-year-old, but with fair placed form in better company than this, he's fancied to gain an overdue second career success now switched back to hurdling.
- Sand Blast
- King Muro
- Newstart
