Without a win since breaking his maiden on his second start in July 2015. Beaten just a neck at Chester last month (5f, good) from 2lb lower, but although this is not as strong a contest, the percentage call is to take him on.
Has done all of his winning at 7f/1m and been nothing like as effective in five starts over this trip, all from lower marks than this. Interesting jockey booking would make a market move potentially significant, but on what we have seen he is not otherwise easy to fancy.
Loves to get his toe in, with both wins (5f/6f) coming on soft ground. Beaten just a neck from 2lb lower at Chester last summer, so weighted to be competitive, though may need to be at his peak to win it.
Sole win was over C&D (good) two years ago in a maiden, after which he went to Royal Asvot and made the frame in the Group Two Coventry Stakes. On the slide since then, however, and even after a further 2lb drop he does not look the obvious winner going into this.
Was a heavy ground winner way back on his debut and also won a Newcastle handicap (5f, good) in 2015, but his consistency in defeat means that the handicapper is not giving him enough rope to add to that, his mark today being another example of that.
Hasn't added to his Newmarket win of 2013 in 19 subsequent outings and despite the fact that on his old form he would appear to be thrown in here, he is firmly on the slide and not easy to enthuse about despite another 3lb drop.
Belied his 20-1 SP to run a big race when just a head second at Ripon on Wednesday night. Sticks to his optimum trip, races from the same mark and in conditions that he handles well again here, so looks set for another big run, though consistency not always his strong point.
Has 3L to find with Snap Shots on their Ripon running from Wednesday night and meets him on the same terms here. However, he did not get a clear run when trying to challenge there, before running on well and if he gets the breaks here then he looks a serious player.
Has won on good to soft, although his best form is on a sound surface. Nonetheless, did well enough on soft at Thirsk last time, when a 3½L runner-up to a runaway winner (6f) to show that he is worth his place in this line-up from 1lb higher.
Yet to win on turf, but went close on good to soft at Salisbury a couple of seasons ago, so should be okay with the forecast ground. Trip not a problem and joins this yard after a 5lb drop following a wide margin defeat for Harry Dunlop when last seen in April. Competitive and a market check is advised.
Has won here over 5f and also on soft ground over that trip at Newmarket last year, his latest success being over 6f (good to soft) at Windsor last month from 6lb lower. 1lb higher here than his best winning mark, so far from ruled out, though may need a career best to follow up.
Relishes deep ground, having won on both soft and heavy, the former over C&D in July from today's mark. Has won with this pilot up and comes here in decent form, although has been beaten favourite on his last three starts, which have all been when he has had his ground.
Now 5lb lower than his last win, when scoring over the stiff 5f at Pontefract (soft) in October. Has also got a 6f win to his name. Represents a yard that looks like it is clicking back into gear again has claims.
Forecasts
Eccleston (11/2), Snap Shots (13/2), Dandyleekie (7/1), Handsome Dude (8/1), Reflektor (8/1), Northgate Lad (8/1), Holiday Magic (11/1), Major Pusey (12/1), Toofi (14/1), Taexali (16/1), Eltezam (16/1), Memories Galore (22/1), Cosmic Chatter (40/1)
Reflektor looks capable of going well for connections that have an excellent record here, while Eccleston might be capable of reversing recent Ripon form with Snap Shots given a traffic-free run. David O'Meara's charge could go close, along with Major Pusey. However, the suggestion is COSMIC CHATTER, whose yard is coming back into form and you don't have to go back far on his CV to see that he looks to be back on a very hand mark again.
- Cosmic Chatter
- Eccleston
- Reflektor
