How the mighty have fallen with this former Australia and Italian Group One-placed runner now contesting claimers, but he still retains a reasonable amount of ability and won one of these at Wolverhampton (1m1½f) in February. Not been as effective in his last two outings but really ought to be a leading player in this.
Won over both 1m2f and 1m3f for Roger Fell last year in handicaps and when conditions were fast and was still in decent form on his last run in December before being switched to this yard. Plenty to find at the weights with a couple of these but has claims of picking up some prize money.
Last win was on his final start for David Evans last summer (1m2f, good to firm) at Chepstow and has been well beaten in all starts over fences, hurdles and on the Flat since then, including in a couple of AW claimers. Could be in the battle for the minors, but hard to see him winning.
Recorded two wins over this trip at Hamilton and Beverley last season when with Richard Guest and was runner-up over 1m6f at Redcar in September for current yard. Form of that leaves him requiring plenty to get involved here.
24lb lower here than when winning a Wetherby handicap over this trip a couple of years ago and although he did score again that year at Redcar it has been a tale of woe since. Not easy to recommend even if he was in that sort of form and impossible to side with him on recent evidence.
2-38, the most recent of those coming after a 29-race losing run at Wolverhampton last month. Trip and forecast conditions not a problem and looks capable of being involved in the shake-up for the minor honours.
Not really a race to get heavily involved in, but former Group One horse RETRIEVE should be too good for them if he can run up to his current rating, while San Quentin could be the one to give him the most to do. Percys Princess looks next best, although could be challenged for the minors by Vercingetorix.
