Mixed it at the top table since recording a second hurdles success at Haydock in November and last seen finishing fifth of 15 to Penhill in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival. Multiple penalties to carry, and dropped in trip but goes on this kind of ground and in truth looks a different class to these three rivals from a mark in the mid 140's.
Rated around 25lb inferior to Ami Desbois, but progressive enough in his own right, with a Carlisle bumper and a 2m Market Rasen novices hurdle on his CV. By Kayf Tara, so this longer trip is unlikely to pose any problems, and looks the most likely forecast option.
Soft ground Point-to-Point winner at Horse and Jockey (3m) for Andrew Slattery in mid March. That trainer has done well with this owners Dimple in Irish Point-to-Points this winter, so interesting to see what the market makes of this rules and hurdles newcomer. Wears a tongue tie, with his owner choosing to run this horse in preference to recent Hexham winner Acdc.
Runner up in an early season Kelso bumper to the subsequent winner Tokaramore, and likely out of his depth at Cheltenham thereafter behind Brahms De Clermont. Makes his hurdles debut up in trip in the first time hood against rivals that are likely to prove too good.
Forecasts
Ami Desbois (2/5), Just Minded (9/4), An Laoch (33/1), Thomas Todd (50/1)
It's a rare phenomenon to see an Albert Bartlett runner at Newcastle in April, but AMI DESBOIS is a most welcome inclusion to the card. He is well ahead of these rivals on official ratings, and despite conceding weight all round with penalties incurred for his Hexham, Haydock and Musselburgh hurdles victories, he should make it a fourth career success with relatively few concerns. Just Minded is the obvious forecast option, but rules newcomer An Laoch is one to keep an eye upon for the future.
- Ami Desbois
- Just Minded
- An Laoch
