Being kept busy bu has been struggling to find his level at present; and will also find it tough conceding weight away all round. Today's rider won this corresponding race last season but is likely to have far tougher assignment this time around. Opposable.
Already paid his way since joining his new yard but returns to the action from his highest rating for quite some time. best watched until he has proved his fitness.
Has won over C&D but yet to really fire for his present yard. The fitting of a visor may help but, given the stable's lack of recent activity, it may be safer to look elsewhere for a win only option.
Won this last year from just a 4lb lower mark, and comes back to Wolverhampton in great heart after winning a similar race at Chelmsford last month. In a minority in that he is good form, so merits consideration in his bid for back-to-back wins.
Has stayed further than this over hurdles, so should cope with the demands on his stamina. A rare runner on the Flat for his trainer, but the yard has good strike-rate, even at this modest level. One to bear in mind.
Respected on the pick of his form; won over C&D back in December, so has little to fear in terms of handling the surface. The 6lb higher mark has to be a concern, though, as career best effort is now required.
Represents a trainer that is relentless in getting the best out of stayers once they hit form; this fellow is following a tried and trusted path and could easily brush aside the penalty for last week's exertions at Lingfield. The gelding has obviously;y thrived during his winter break and is worth following until the bubble bursts.
Goes well at this course and has been running well above the expectations of the betting market in his last few starts. Unlikely that he will be allowed to start at too fancy a price this time around, as he has solid claims of at least making the frame in this company.
Unexposed at the trip but won well enough over 1m4f last time out, so merits consideration in a weak race like this. Needs to raise his game once more but has steadily improved since joining his current yard and it will be interesting to see how much more he has to offer. Shortlist material at least.
No doubts about his stamina but his AW form has been poor up to press and the fact he finished stone last on his reappearance hardly bodes well for a quick return to form. Has at least won for today's rider, so won't be found wanting for assistance in the saddle. But has a lot to prove just now.
Forecasts
Tartan Bute (9/4), Midtech Star (5/1), Silver Quay (5/1), Ardamir (11/2), Ravens Quest (6/1), El Campeon (11/1), Uncle Bernie (20/1), Entihaa (25/1), Bertie Moon (40/1), Dovils Date (66/1)
Mark Johnston is a trainer that excels when he finds one for races of this nature and it would no surprise to see his TARTAN BUTE brush aside the burden of the weights with a degree of ease. He is worth a saver at least. Last year's winner, Midtech Star, is likely to throw down a stern challenge in his bid to retain his crown, while Ardamir represents a shrewd operation, so strong support in the betting would be dangerous to ignore. Uncle Bernie has defied expectations on a couple of occasions and can give each-way punters a run for their money. Similar comments apply to Ravens Quest , even though he needs to conclusively prove this trip is ideal for him.
- Tartan Bute
- Midtech Star
- Uncle Bernie
