Took advantage of a career low mark to collect with a great deal in hand last week. Stable took this race last year but chances of a repeat depend on his ability to stay the trip having been well beaten on all his previous starts beyond 2m4f.
Form has been on a steep downward curve under both codes since last June. His last win came in a visor in 2015 and the same headgear is tried here for just the second time since.
Stable 2-5 over last two weeks. Would have claims on his Warwick victory for Rebecca Curtis in May 2015. Has shown little since but would make some appeal off this mark if the market suggested his form was about to improve.
Now 3lb below the mark which saw him pick up a novice handicap last March. Stable do well here and he has shown form at 3m previously which suggests he ought to be thereabouts.
Point-to-point and bumper winner who has since finished fourth in a pair of novice hurdles. Makes handicap debut off a fair mark and looks like one to keep an eye on. Yet to race on ground as soft as this.
Last win came over C&D in December 2015 and back down to the same mark for the first time since. Has rarely run two races alike but his last three efforts have been consistently poor. Blinkers are tried now and last winning rider has been booked to ride.
Aengus will deservedly be well fancied to follow up last week's Wetherby success. However, when tackling distances from 2m4f upwards, he has failed to see out the trip and his breeding also suggests a trip like this is beyond his liking. Bruce Almighty looks the handicap pick off a mark below that which saw him win at Carlisle last March. He has mixed form at 3m which also suggests he needs to be ridden to get the trip. With such a big weight on his back, he is passed over in favour of TURTLE CASK who would be hard to recommend on his recent form, but conditions here look perfect for him. With the hope that first-time blinkers have the desired effect, he should represent value in a race where all have questions to answer.
1. Turtle Cask
2. Bruce Almighty
3. Aengus
