Would be undefeated over fences but for a third place finish at Aintree in June. Tries his longest trip yet today but all the indications are that it will suit, though he has been raised 10lb for his recent Leicester win.
Hasn't won yet in his first season out of novice company, but his sights are lowered after a series of underwhelming performances in races such as the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. He now finds himself on his lowest handicap mark yet and should go well over a C&D he enjoys.
Last seen pulling up in a similar race at Ludlow, and has never won at this level, over either fences or hurdles. Was in the process of running a huge race when unseating here two starts ago though, and he'd be in with a chance if replicating that form.
Won over the summer at Uttoxeter but was worryingly poor on his two most recent starts, with only one rival behind him in the two races combined. Needs to put those performances behind him and prove he is up to being competitive at this level.
Hasn't won since January 2015, but has been very effective at being thereabouts in his races. A couple of these seem better handicapped or more progressive, but he could well be on the premises again, and he has definite place claims.
Narrow winner at Southwell last time out (2m4½f, good to soft), and goes up 5lb for that, despite only winning by a neck. Gets a class test today, but should prove competitive if overcoming the higher weight.
Finished last season with a hat-trick of wins but has looked largely regressive this term. A C&D winner, these would be his conditions, but he can't be recommended based on his recent achievements.
Forecasts
Full Shift (13/8), Ballycoe (7/2), Gores Island (5/1), Sir Note (7/1), Uhlan Bute (8/1), Easy Street (12/1), Lemon's Gent (22/1)
SIR NOTE has excelled over fences so far, suffering defeat in only one of his five appearances. This is tougher than some of those, and he continues to rise in the handicap, but he looks progressive and has to be in with a big chance. Of the others, Full Shift looks like one who could make the most of a definite step down in class today, while Uhlan Bute is interesting if able to get close to the form he showed when unseating while leading here two starts ago.
1. Sir Note
2. Full Shift
3. Uhlan Bute
