French acquisition who has just his second run for a yard that can strike on its raids here. Was ridden handily until giving best on his Uttoxeter debut and may appreciate the less testing going forecast here as three of his four wins in France had good in the description. Market check advised.
Clearly not been easy to handle after just 16 career starts, but has finished in the money on seven occasions including when winning a novices' handicap chase at Perth in 2015 from a mark of 112. Had a couple of runs in the autumn and with a drop in the weights he looks likely to be very competitive today.
4lb higher than when scoring at Market Rasen (2m1f, good to soft) a couple of starts back and, after being well beaten last time over further, he should appreciate the return to the minimum here and is respected.
Decent strike rate over fences, winning five of his 13 races, all at around this distance. Not ground dependent, though has not won for almost two years, with that last success being from 120. Handicapper giving him a chance now, though would like to have seen a little bit more in recent runs.
Same mark here as when a six length runner-up at Catterick last time under today's pilot. Not without market support there and should go very well on what could be a compensation mission.
1-15 over fences but was competitive from a 4lb higher mark at Catterick in December and pulled up over further back there last time. The drop in trip looks a positive and a market check is advised in order to gauge any stable confidence.
Raised 4lb for scoring over a similar trip at Sedgefield last time (soft). If still as able as was the case when he won at Musselburgh last winter from a mark of 115 then he could still be well handicapped today, though balance of subsequent form suggests that last time was the day to catch him.
4lb below his best winning mark and only 1lb higher than his last success, which came in a soft ground Newcastle handicap chase in December. Back at this trip and with forecast ground to suit, he could go very well despite a couple of poor recent efforts.
Forecasts
Lightening Rod (5/2), Unzing (10/3), Chestnut Ben (5/1), Oscatara (7/1), Plaisir D'Amour (8/1), Groomed (10/1), Witness (16/1), Grey Life (25/1)
Lightening Rod came in for a bit of support with Brian Hughes up at Catterick last time and that may reoccur today, though his form doesn't shout 'good thing' off the page and the suggestion is OSCATARA, whose connections have always had to exercise patience and they can gain further reward for that from today's mark. Plaisir D'amour is one to keep an eye on in the market and the same applies to Groomed.
1. Oscatara
2. Lightening Rod
3. Groomed
