Former Tony Martin-trained gelding whose last success was over C&D (soft) in a novices' contest last year and put up his best handicap effort over fences at Newcastle last time, when making the frame. A 1lb drop, plus his rider's claim and first-time headgear are reasons to take a keen interest here.
Won three races out of four between February and May last year an his best effort since was over C&D (good) in October. 4lb lower than that mark today, which puts him back on the same mark as his last success. Yard has not had many runners of late and a market check is advised for any signs of confidence.
Two most recent wins have been over 2m4f, but was four lengths clear at Uttoxeter over 2m last time (heavy) when coming down. Frustrating for connections that he has gone up 8lb for that, meaning that he needs a career best to win today, but given that he has been in such good form this winter he still appears to have a big chance.
In cracking form with three wins from his last four starts, including here two starts ago over C&D (soft). Up just 1lb for his latest success at Newcastle, gets on well with today's pilot and provided he handles the forecast deeper ground he will be tough to beat.
Has two French heavy ground wins to his name, but has been in the grip of the handicapper since arriving in Britain. Another 5lb drop will help but not easy to fancy him against others in better form.
Forecasts
Casual Cavalier (11/8), Las Tunas (9/2), Mumgos Debut (9/2), Trust Thomas (11/2), Captain Hox (11/2)
Despite the small field this is not an easy race to solve and largely because he comes here in such good form the suggestion is CASUAL CAVALIER. However, Mumgos Debut, Trust Thomas and Captain Hox all have a number of potential positives to their names and should make a good race of it.
1. Casual Cavalier
2. Mumgos Debut
3. Captain Hox
