Course hurdles winner (2m in November 2013), and went onto develop into a useful handicap hurdler. One win and one placed effort to his name so far over fences, and fully entitled to need his return in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon last month. This is easier despite top weight, but needs to fence with more fluency.
A ready five length winner of this race in 2016 from an 8lbs lower mark and despite posting a good fifth placed effort at the Cheltenham Festival in March thereafter, was perhaps over the top when tackling the Grand National. Given a confidence booster or two this year over hurdles (winner at Haydock last time) following bad blunder on return over fences at Chepstow in October, but likely to go well back here over fences.
In excellent shape over fences last spring, following up a good run at Warwick when winning at both Haydock and Perth. Mark took a hit subsequently, but still capable of winning at Doncaster in December (off 139) and contender off new perch of 144.
Three time chase winner for Willie Mullins, but that form seems a long time ago now and pulled up on both starts for Paul Henderson this season. First time hood applied.
Got no further than the third on his fourth chase start in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day, and largely flattered by placed form figures over fences (beaten in a match at Newbury in early November).
Hat-trick winning hurdler (third success off 111 at Uttoxeter in October 2014), and two time winner over fences from four starts so far. Both of those victories have been on decent ground at this sort of trip, so wouldn't want the ground to deteriorate for first run since May 2016.
Two and a quarter length winner of a Class 3 C&D event on Soft ground in February 2016, making all, jumping boldly and keeping on strongly which gives him every chance here off a 7lb higher mark. Third in the Kim Muir subsequently, and has taken on the Becher Chase in the second of his two runs so far this winter.
Looked a typical Tizzard staying chaser when dispatching Ericht with aplomb over just shy of 2m4f at Newbury in November. Raised 8lbs since, and up in trip, but has won over hurdles over 2m7f (at Taunton). Live contender.
A six time winner (all over shorter trips) and sports a 50% success rate in six races over fences, but those victories have also largely come at a lower level than this. Disappointing on seasonal return over fences at Wetherby in October, but a step back in the right direction last time when runner up over hurdles at Leicester last month.
Ex Irish and three time winner over fences, including for Paul Henderson in 2014. Returned for Chris Gordon in November after two and a half years off the track, winning on his second start at Wincanton last month. Given a 10l rise for that success and beaten off this mark in the Sussex National (33/1) earlier this month.
Forecasts
Kruzhlinin (3/1), Volnay De Thaix (4/1), Our Kaempfer (5/1), Silvergrove (15/2), Sandy Beach (8/1), Abricot De L'Oasis (8/1), No Duffer (10/1), Chill Factor (12/1), Carloswayback (25/1), Turban (66/1)
A good race, which can perhaps be narrowed down to the three likeliest winners, which obviously includes last years winner Kruzhlinin. He's been shrewdly campaigned by connections over hurdles and is much respected on his return to fences at this track from an 8lbs higher mark than in 2016. However, he gives weight to up and coming chasers in the shape of Sandy Beach who could well relish tackling this new trip, but preference is for the Ben Pauling trained SILVERGROVE. One couldn't fail to have coveted Silvergrove here last February, and this nine year old has very much been dining at the top table since, and looks sure to make a bold bid from the front on his return to Kempton Park.
1. Silvergrove
2. Sandy Beach
3. Kruzhlinin
