Wolves 2-0 Fulham: Hosts extend lead at the top to four points

Impressive Wolves moved four points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship after cruising past limp Fulham 2-0.

First-half goals from Romain Saiss and Leo Bonatini sealed a 2-0 win for the hosts to tighten their grip on the promotion race and they are now 8/13 favourites with Sky Bet to win the title, with Fulham out to 100/1.

Bonatini is now Sky Bet's 4/1 favourite to finish as the Championship's top scorer this season, ahead of Britt Assombalonga (Middlesbrough) who is 6/1, Pierre-Michel Lasogga (Leeds) who is 14s and Bobby Reid (Bristol City) and Lewis Grabban (Sunderland) who are both 16/1.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo was linked with the Everton job this week but will see his side go into the international break top following an 11th win from 16 games.

Ruben Neves has already gone close before Saiss, recalled after suspension, glanced a fine header in at the near post from Barry Douglas' ninth-minute corner.

Any Fulham hopes of a comeback ended when Bonatini's 10th goal of the season doubled the hosts' lead after 26 minutes.

Ryan Sessegnon conceded a free-kick on the right and Douglas' excellent driven delivery was glanced in by Bonatini, who has now scored in six straight league games.

The hosts went hunting for more after the break and Bonatini prodded Ivan Cavaleiro's neat pass wide before Floyd Ayite dragged Fulham's best chance off target from 15 yards.

But Wolves were denied a third after 66 minutes when David Button produced a splendid reflex save from Bonatini's header and Jota failed to turn in the rebound.

The hosts remained in control and Jota, Saiss and Bonatini all squandered fine chances to add to their lead with Bonatini planting a free header over with 17 minutes left.

Match reaction

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "We were looking for a third goal as 2-0 is always dangerous against a team of Fulham's quality and it would have made us more relaxed. It's three points now and the international break, so let's recover well because there's a long way to go.

"Bonatini is a quality player but his work is more than just the goals. He works for the team and he's the first defender we have."

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic: "There are not so many positive things for us. The situation is not new. They scored two easy goals, we played around but didn't create serious chances or show enough quality.

"It's a similar story, we're not in our best moment and some people still need to adapt to this competition. We are now one month without being at an acceptable level. We must be ready to fight or we could be in trouble."
