The 27-year-old joined the Gunners back in 2010 but prior to this season managed just 14 appearances, including just six in the Premier League.
During this time, Martinez was sent out on loan to Oxford (2011-12), Sheffield Wednesday (2013-14), Rotherham (2014-15), Wolverhampton (2015-16), Getafe (2017-18) and Reading (2018-19) before becoming main back-up to number one Bernd Leno for the current campaign.
The Argentinean played in all the club's domestic cup matches and six Europa League group games but then took over the role on a permanent basis when Leno was injured during the defeat at Brighton in June.
As well as completing the Premier League season between the sticks, Martinez kept a clean sheet in the FA Cup semi-final victory over defending champions Manchester City before helping the Gunners lift the trophy for a record 14th time - and seventh this century.
An emotional Martinez was interviewed by BBC Sport alongside two-goal hero and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but could hardly string words together in a moving sporting moment.
He said on BBC One: "When we started losing, everything looked against us, but.. I can't really talk."
After composing himself a little, Martinez added: "I said to him [Aubameyang] before the game, you are going to win us the game."
The striker said: "Big respect for this man [Martinez]. We enjoyed today. We are so happy. As you can see, Emi is crying. That shows, that winning this game and this trophy makes us so happy.
"We are all happy. He (manager Mikel Arteta) deserves this win. He has done a great job - we are all happy to have him on board."
