Local boy Matty Longstaff was the hero as he scored on his Newcastle debut to pile more misery on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United with a 1-0 win at St James' Park.
Steve Bruce hadn't beaten United in 22 attempts as a manager but felt he had his best chance given the poor form that the Red Devils had been displaying of late - although a 5-0 hammering at Leicester was hardly top form for Newcastle themselves.
There was also the fact that United had gone 10 away games without a win, and in fact had not won on the road since their Champions League epic in Paris - a game which seems a million miles away after yet another frustrating road trip.
With all the various dramas going on around Newcastle, the team showed a great response to last week as they were bright from the start, and posed most of the attacking questions throughout the match as Solskjaer's side again struggled to find any cohesion or rhythm going forward.
🙌 What a moment for Matt Longstaff!

The livewire Allan Saint-Maximin was looking dangerous with his pace from the off, and went close with a 12-minute effort, while Miguel Almiron really should've done better when he dithered on the ball when looking clean through.
The fact Andreas Pereira only notched United's first shot on target four minutes before half time told its own story and Martin Dubravka was in truth rarely tested in the Newcastle goal.
Even when the visitors managed to get a golden chance, Harry Maguire wasted it when he some missed a free header from a corner when it looked harder to miss the target.
The breakthrough came with just 17 minutes left when the speedy Saint-Maximin burst clear, laid the ball off for Jetro Willems who squared for Longstaff to fire home a crisp low drive beyond David De Gea.
Man Utd are now 11 games without a win away from Old Trafford since beating PSG in March.
