Leicester City 2-3 Liverpool: Reds win on the road

Simon Mignolet saved Jamie Vardy's penalty to clinch a thrilling 3-2 win for Liverpool at Leicester.

The goalkeeper capped an eventful game after conceding the spot-kick having also been in the spotlight for Shinji Okazaki's controversial strike.

Mignolet appeared to be held by the forward when he netted just before the break after Leicester trailed to goals from Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho.

Jordan Henderson made it 3-1 before Vardy netted but he was then denied from the spot by Mignolet.

It was revenge for Liverpool after they lost 2-0 at the King Power Stadium in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and they ended a run of four games without a win to move fifth.

Liverpool are 20/1 in Sky Bet's title odds and 10/11 for a top-four finish.

Leicester are 11/1 to go down after falling to defeat.

Story of the odds

It was a good night for backers of Sky Bet's RequestABets. Winners included...

  • Coutinho & Okazaki to score and Lovren carded at 40/1.
  • Salah to score, Liverpool to win, Ndidi to be carded and 30+ Liverpool booking points at 50/1

A 3-2 win for Liverpool traded at 20/1 during half-time when the Reds were 2-1 up. Seven unlucky punters backed the Salah to score first and 3-3 draw scorecast at 240/1, which would have been a contender if Vardy scored from the spot.

Post-match reaction

Jurgen Klopp on Simon Mignolet and the win: "As a goalkeeper if you save it you make a very good day of it. He did it again, so that's good.

"I thought we were deserved winners, so it's a good day. I said before the game to the boys 'we are not the Harlem Globetrotters. We don't go out to try to play beautiful football. We are here for results, so we play for results'.

"I loved how we fought for it. It could've been more clear. But after a few games with no results, or not the right results, you have to fight back. That's what we did. And now we can build on this."

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare on his side's defeat: "Very, very disappointed not to come away with something. Ultimately because we were searching for that second goal it cost us. We left ourselves too open.

"The third goal was always going to be hard to come back from. But, try we did and we could've got a point in the end."
