Player ratings: Real Madrid 4-1 Juventus

Champions League player ratings after Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in the final in Cardiff.

JUVENTUS

GIANLUIGI BUFFON: Captaining the side aged 39 years 126 days, the much-loved goalkeeper could do little to prevent any of Real Madrid's four goals on a heart-breaking evening. 6 (out of 10)

DANI ALVES: A Champions League winner three times with Barcelona, the Brazilian duelled well with compatriot Marcelo until Juve's second-half collapse. 6

GIORGIO CHIELLINI: Strong in the tackle and intelligent without the ball in the first half, the defender was unable to cope as Real laid siege after the break. 6

ANDREA BARZAGLI: As smart as the centre-back is, he looked like a 36-year-old playing against the world's best attackers. 5

LEONARDO BONUCCI: Normally the star of Juventus' BBC backline, the sturdiness he normally displays was sadly missing. 6

ALEX SANDRO: The Brazilian has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world this season. Good defensively and a fine outlet on the attack. 7

SAMI KHEDIRA: Part of the victorious Real Madrid team in 2014, the defence-minded midfielder saw Casemiro's drive fly off his heel. 6

MIRALEM PJANIC: His vision and passing range was impressive in the first half, but he wilted when the pressure mounted. 6

MARIO MANDZUKIC: A Champions League winner with Bayern, he became the third player to score in a European Cup final for two different sides - and in some style. Mandzukic's overhead kick will be remembered for a long time to come, but it will only be a sidenote. 7

PAULO DYBALA: The 23-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the game but saw a fine start peter out in Cardiff. 6

GONZALO HIGUAIN: Signed to a fanfare almost as large as his transfer fee, the former Real Madrid striker led the line impressively but the service dried up. 7

SUBS

JUAN CUADRADO (for Barzagli, 66): Brought on as Juventus chased the game, his night was ended early after collecting a second booking after Sergio Ramos' theatrics. 4

CLAUDIO MARCHISO (for Pjanic, 70): An experienced introduction unable to swing the tie. 6

MARIO LEMINA (for Dybala, 78): Unable to make much of an impact. 6

REAL MADRID

KEYLOR NAVAS: Under pressure for his place if Real step up their interest in Manchester United's David De Gea, but made fine early save from Pjanic before Mandzukic gave him absolutely no chance. 7

DANI CARVAJAL: Probed constantly down right and overlapping run set up Ronaldo's first goal, but was targeted by Juve up against Mandzukic's physical power and could not prevent the Croatian's wonder goal. 8

SERGIO RAMOS: On the scoresheet when Real won the trophy in 2014 and 2016, but little chance to be a set-piece threat this time and focused on defensive duties as he collected his customary caution. 7

RAPHAEL VARANE: Slotted in alongside Ramos with Pepe not even making the bench, comfortable with the ball at his feet and spotted danger well after Juventus had caused problems early on. 7

MARCELO: Offered Real width down the left with his pace and penetration, became an increasing attacking influence as the game wore on and set up Marco Asensio for Real's clincher. 8

CASEMIRO: Held his defensive midfield position well to break up the play and got forward to spectacular effect with his deflected shot putting Real 2-1 ahead just after the hour mark. 8

TONI KROOS: Elegant German midfielder always looked comfortable on the ball and showed an impressive turn of pace at times, when he got on top in midfield so did Real. 8

LUKA MODRIC: Always willing to get on the ball and launch dangerous Real attacks, the Croatian tested Buffon in the Juventus goal before clever run and cross set up Ronaldo's second. 8

ISCO: Got the nod to start over Gareth Bale and was difficult to pick up when dropping into pockets of space between the lines. Deserved his standing ovation when he made way in the final 10 minutes. 8

CRISTIANO RONALDO: Showed his predatory touch once more as he became the first player to score in three Champions League finals in the modern era and then killed off Juventus with his second. 9

KARIM BENZEMA: Occupied Juventus defenders whether in the middle or pulling wide, seldom had chances to score himself but his experienced markers knew they had been in a game. 7

SUBS

GARETH BALE (for Benzema, 77mins). The Wales star was a late arrival after injury and had little chance to shine on his Cardiff home patch. 6

MARCO ASENSIO (for Isco, 82mins). Put the cherry on Real's Champions League cake with a late fourth goal. 7

ALVARO MORATA (for Kroos, 89mins). Sent on for the final few moments with the job done. 6
