Barnsley 1-1 WBA

(video no longer available)

Title hopefuls West Brom continued their unbeaten run but had to settle for a point as in-form Barnsley snatched a 1-1 draw at Oakwell.

An early screamer from Filip Krovinovic was not enough for the Baggies to take all three points as Aapo Halme's tap-in at the death saw the points shared.

West Brom opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Barnsley goalkeeper Sami Radlinger's poor clearance fell straight to Krovinovic, who took two touches and fired over the keeper into an empty net from 25 yards.

Barnsley had the opportunity to get back level when Conor Chaplin found himself free down the left and his cross was parried by Sam Johnstone as far as Cauley Woodrow, but his shot was blocked. The ball came back to Chaplin in the box but his attempt was run down by supporting defenders.

Johnstone continued to keep the leaders ahead with a wonderful save from Jacob Brown's volley.

Austin could have made it two five minutes before half-time after another defensive mistake from the Reds, but Radlinger saved.

The hosts had chance after chance, but the final balls were poor and wasted.

Barnsley equalised in the last minute when a Chaplin cross into the box was tapped in by Halme to make it just one defeat in six games for Gerhard Struber's men.

Leeds 1-1 Preston

Second-placed Leeds could not take full advantage of West Brom dropping points, relying on a deflected Stuart Dallas goal to secure a 1-1 draw with Preston at Elland Road.

Alan Browne's smart 22nd-minute finish appeared to be giving North End a deserved victory until Dallas struck one minute from time.

Blackburn 1-1 Birmingham

(video no longer available)

Kerim Mrabti's first goal of the season secured Birmingham a point in a 1-1 draw at Blackburn.

Chances were few and far between in an uninspiring encounter, with both goals coming from penalties gifted to the opposition.

Rovers took the lead through Adam Armstrong's penalty in the 55th minute after a clumsy Wes Harding foul. But former Birmingham man Amari'i Bell gave away an equally stonewall penalty in the 63rd minute, duly dispatched by Mrabti.

Derrick Williams hit the woodwork in stoppage time but, although Rovers stretched their unbeaten run to eight, they will see this as another missed opportunity to make up ground on the top six after a second straight home draw.

The Blues have won just once in their last eight games, but this fightback means they registered a first point in four matches.

Lukas Jutkiewicz spurned a glorious chance before the break, diverting a free header over, before Trueman was in action again, saving a low, 20-yard Armstrong drive.

Birmingham fell behind 10 minutes after the restart but only had themselves to blame as Harding's ill-judged mis-timed tackle brought down Gallagher and gave referee Robert Jones an easy decision to award a spot-kick.

Armstrong did the honours, slamming the ball into the bottom-left corner for his sixth goal of the campaign.

In the season of giving, it was Blackburn's turn eight minutes later, when Bell's outstretched leg upended Jacques Maghoma.

Mrabti stepped up and sent Walton the wrong way, placing the ball into the right corner.

Brentford 3-1 Swansea

(video no longer available)

An Ollie Watkins brace took Brentford into third place in the Sky Bet Championship as they claimed a 3-1 win over fellow play-off chasers Swansea.

The striker's 14th and 15th goals of the season and a Bryan Mbeumo header were enough to ensure Andre Ayew's lifeline midway through the second half was in vain.

Brentford took the lead after 19 minutes, Ethan Pinnock rising at the far post to head Mathias Jensen's corner back across goal for Mbeumo to nod home past the despairing hand of Swans keeper Freddie Woodman.

They stretched their advantage midway through the first half when Ollie Watkins grabbed his 14th goal of the season with a superb instinctive volley from Ricoh Henry's first-time cross from the left.

Ayew gave the Swans hope when he slid in to pounce on a loose ball and bundle home after David Raya could only parry Bersant Celina's stinging drive into his path.

But Watkins 89th-minute strike - running on to a slide rule Josh Dasilva pass to fire past keeper Freddie Woodman - sealed the points to put his side within seven points of second-placed Leeds.

Cardiff 1-1 Millwall

(video no longer available)

Millwall midfielder Jed Wallace scored a stunning free-kick to salvage a 1-1 draw at Cardiff and deny Neil Harris victory over his former side.

The 26-year-old found the top corner with an unstoppable set-piece to level the scores four minutes after Aden Flint had put the hosts in front from close range.

Wallace's seventh goal from his last 13 matches ensured his side remained level on 34 points with Cardiff, who appointed former Lions boss Harris in November.

The last four matches between these sides had ended in draws and this one looked destined to finish the same way after a drab first half.

Cardiff striker Robert Glatzel shimmied past Jake Cooper and unleashed a fierce shot just before the half-time whistle, but Bartosz Bialkowski stood strong to ensure his side went in level at half-time.

The Lions goalkeeper went one better the other side of the interval with a stunning save to deny Lee Tomlin.

The Poland international went full stretch and used his fingertips to divert Tomlin's left-footed volley just past the post.

He was powerless to stop the Bluebirds from taking the lead after 60 minutes though.

Left-back Bennett swung in a corner that was flicked on by Marlon Pack at the front post, and there was nobody tracking the run of Flint as he ghosted into the six-yard box unmarked to tap the ball in.

But Wallace hauled Millwall back level within four minutes with his ninth goal of the season.

Pack pulled down Shaun Williams to give Wallace a dangerous dead-ball opportunity and he fired an unstoppable free-kick past Neil Etheridge into the top corner to level the scores.

Charlton 3-2 Bristol City

(video no longer available)

Alfie Doughty scored his first career goal after Macauley Bonne's brace to earn Charlton a 3-2 comeback victory over Bristol City amidst a raucous Boxing Day atmosphere at The Valley.

The left winger, who turned 20 just five days ago, converted a low cross from Bonne eight minutes from time at the second attempt as Charlton recorded their first win in 12 games.

Not since October had Lee Bowyer's side tasted victory. Bonne was central to this triumph having scored Charlton's first two goals before supplying the winner for Doughty.

The result meant that Bristol City have now lost four successive Championship games and have dropped out of the promotion picture for now at least.

The breakthrough came five minutes before half-time through a sublime piece of finishing from Bonne.

Released by a looping Albie Morgan pass, the striker judged his lob to perfection as he lifted his shot over advancing Bristol City keeper Daniel Bentley and saw it bounce into roof of the net.

Their failure to add to the lead proved costly just 45 seconds into the second half when Andreas Weimann threw himself at a cross from City substitute Niclas Eliasson to guide his header into the far corner of the net.

Along with Jay Dasilva, Eliasson was one of two half-time substitutions made by Lee Johnson is response to a lacklustre display in the opening 45 minutes.

The Swede's driving runs down the right caused all manner of problems for the home defence. He completed the turnaround on the hour but not before a Sarr header had struck the back of Taylor Moore and looped up onto the City crossbar as Charlton sought to restore their lead.

Again, that escape proved pivotal for the visitors as the ball ricocheted into Eliasson's path for him to steer his shot through the legs of Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips.

It was Bonne who lifted the Charlton spirits once more. His persistence in following in a Taylor flick-on was rewarded 12 minutes from time when he lifted a fierce shot into the roof of the net to give Charlton a deserved point.

That was followed by a cross for Doughty's winner four minutes later. The youngster's first shot was spilled by Bentley allowing Doughty to squeeze home his second effort.

Hull 0-2 Forest

(video no longer available)

Lewis Grabban's brace earned Nottingham Forest a much-needed 2-0 victory at Hull.

Forest's game management was particularly impressive - especially once Grabban scored an 11th-minute penalty.

Despite having created few chances following that early breakthrough, Hull's most potent attacking threats, wingers Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen, were superbly marshalled by a resilient back-four.

Grabban then confirmed an away win when he smashed home from a tricky angle after 82 minutes.

This result was even more laudable as Hull had won their previous three home games. City also began purposefully in a bid to improve upon that record.

Indeed, the hosts should have gained a fifth-minute lead when Bowen's neat free-kick from the right caused unease within the Forest back-line.

Midfielder Jackson Irvine was quickest to react from the resulting skirmish, but he somehow fired over the crossbar from four yards with a stretching lunge.

If Irvine was frustrated by that miss, the Australia international's mind would have been even cloudier when he contributed to Forest's opening goal six minutes later.

An innocuous ball over the top was not effectively dealt with as Samba Sow, who later in the half hobbled off through injury, was afforded time and space to control inside the hosts' penalty box.

Sow was not in an especially dangerous position, though, and Irvine should have known better than to hastily react with a clumsy challenge.

Referee Geoff Eltringham pointed towards the penalty spot, from which Grabban battered the ball down the middle of the goal.

Forest substitute Ryan Yates should later have rubber-stamped an away win when he stabbed the ball wide following Joe Lolley's astute drag-back across the face of goal.

Yates' miss was irrelevant as Grabban added a second on the counter-attack with a fierce hit from the right of the penalty area following more good work from Silva.

Luton 3-3 Fulham

(video no longer available)

Bobby Reid left it late to secure Fulham a 3-3 draw at Luton.

Harry Cornick had made it 3-2 to the Hatters in the 82nd minute, only for Reid to strike to take the hosts into the drop zone.

Kazenga LuaLua and James Collins scored either side of Bobby Reid's equaliser before Aleksandar Mitrovic's 18th goal of the campaign started the drama in the 77th minute.

Middlesbrough 1-0 Huddersfield

(video no longer available)

Middlesbrough's recent renaissance continued as Djed Spence's first-half strike secured a 1-0 win over Huddersfield.

Jonathan Woodgate's side have claimed four home wins in a row to lift themselves away from the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone, with their latest success coming courtesy of Spence's first goal since stepping up to the first team at the start of the month.

Having secured a much-needed win over relegation rivals Stoke in their last game before Christmas, Boro started brightly as they looked to seize the early initiative against another side close to them in the bottom half of the table.

Huddersfield's players gradually grew into the game, but the visitors' first opportunity came to nothing midway through the first half when Steve Mounie headed Karlan Grant's corner wide of the target at the back post.

Grant thought he should have had a penalty midway through the opening period, but referee Darren England waved away the striker's appeals after he was brushed aside by Ayala.

Huddersfield's frustrations increased eight minutes before the break, as Middlesbrough claimed the lead courtesy of one of the best passing moves of the game.

Tavernier released Ashley Fletcher into the left of the box, he slid a low cross across the face of the six-yard box, and an unmarked Spence swooped to slot home his first senior goal. Still just 19, the wing-back has made four Championship appearances since stepping up to the first team.

Huddersfield improved as they looked for an equaliser at the start of the second half, but Jon Gorenc-Stankovic passed up a glorious chance of a leveller shortly before the hour mark.

The defender was four yards out when he rose to meet Juninho Bacuna's corner, but his header sailed harmlessly over the bar.

Stoke 3-2 Sheffield Wednesday

(video no longer available)

Substitutes Tyrese Campbell and Sam Vokes pulled off a stunning comeback 3-2 win as Stoke stunned promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday.

Teenager Campbell, son of former Arsenal striker Kevin, seemingly stole a share of the spoils in the 93rd minute, before Vokes grabbed the points in the seventh minute of added time.

Irish international McClean scored his second goal in four games as the hosts took the lead after 11 minutes. Midfielder McClean poked home Joe Allen's goal-bound header on the line.

After the restart, Stoke had shouts for a penalty waved away following a nasty clash of heads between Clucas and Massimo Luongo in the Owls' box

Garry Monk made all three substitutions by the 65th minute and it paid off soon after as the visitors levelled proceedings two minutes later.

Defender Morgan Fox flicked Barry Bannan's corner home with 23 minutes left with the help of goal-line technology as the ball just crossed the line.

And seven minutes later Monk's promotion chasers hit the front.

Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland produced a fine save to keep out Sam Winnall's initial header, but skipper Lees reacted quickest to nod home the rebound.

Manager Michael O'Neill threw his last roll of the dice as he brought on former Burnley striker Vokes.

And the Welsh international almost found a welcome equaliser as his header was kept out by Dawson in the visitors' net.

Campbell levelled proceedings at the death when he fired home after Clucas' header before Vokes poked home to spark jubilant scenes.

Wigan 1-1 Derby

(video no longer available)

Former Wigan striker Martyn Waghorn scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Derby a barely deserved point from a 1-1 Sky Bet Championship draw at the DW Stadium.

After hammering on the door for virtually all of the game, Wigan made the breakthrough with nine minutes remaining, when substitute Joe Garner volleyed into the roof of the net.

But Wigan had come into the game having thrown away an incredible 22 points from winning positions this term, and that tally increased by two when Waghorn was left unmarked at a corner to lash the ball over the line with seconds to go.

Wigan had started very much in the ascendancy, with Josh Windass unable to take delivery of a super ball from Lee Evans when he would have been in on goal.

A great run into the box by Nathan Byrne then promised much, but his left-footed shot was weak and straight at Ben Hamer.

Wigan then created - and wasted - a gilt-edged opportunity 10 minutes into the second period, when Evans set Windass away again in acres of space down the right.

The Derby defence eventually cracked nine minutes from time, when Jacobs found Garner, who hooked his volley into the top corner to the relief of most inside the DW.

But there was a sense of inevitability about what was to follow, with Waghorn's goal extending Wigan's winless run to 14 matches.

Reading 1-0 QPR

Queens Park Rangers lost ground in the Sky Bet Championship play-off race with a 1-0 defeat at struggling Reading.

The Hoops took an age to get going in a patchy first-half display and were indebted to goalkeeper Joe Lumley for fine saves to deny Ovie Ejaria and John Swift in the same incident.

But they went behind in the 52nd minute, when Lumley was helpless to stop a stunning long-range drive from midfielder Swift.

Despite a frantic late rally, QPR were unable to find the leveller.
