Rangers 0-2 Celtic: Scottish Premiership champions win at Ibrox

Brendan Rodgers' Celtic once again underlined their Old Firm superiority as they claimed a 2-0 Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership win over Rangers at Ibrox.

The Light Blues were under order to get in the faces of their bitter rivals and for 45 minutes they made the opening derby clash of the season a compelling watch.

But goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths after the break swung the game decisively in the Parkhead outfit's favour as they opened up an eight-point lead over Pedro Caixinha's team.

Celtic are as short as 1/33 with Sky Bet to once again win the Scottish Premiership title and Rangers are out at 33/1 to finish at the top.

The chance of the first half fell to Celtic as Patrick Roberts turned Lee Hodson inside out on the left before driving straight for goal - but Wes Foderingham was off his line quick to block.

At the end of a half where neither side had given an inch, Caixinha and Celtic captain Scott Brown even ended up nose-to-nose as the teams went down the tunnel.

It took just five minutes after the break for Celtic to grab the opener. Gers should have cleared their line when Roberts' effort dribbled into the box. Ross McCrorie – who up until that point had barely put a foot wrong against Griffiths – and Fabio Cardosso got in each other's way before Hodson swiped at fresh air, allowing Australian Rogic to whip home a stunning finish.

There was no coming back when Griffiths sneaked in behind McCrorie to slot home the second after 66 minutes when Roberts sent the Scotland forward racing clear.

Post-match reaction

Prolific striker Leigh Griffiths was pleased to score on his 100th league appearance for Celtic as they eased to a 2-0 win against derby rivals Rangers at Ibrox.

He has scored 67 goals in his 100 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Hoops, and speaking about his record, Griffiths told Sky Sports: "It's not too bad.

"I could have had a few more with the chances I've missed, but scoring on my 100th league appearance for Celtic is nice.

"I'm happy with a goal, three points, clean sheet. We'll head back down the road and get ready for Wednesday (against Anderlecht in the Champions League)."

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Griffiths, saying of his achievement: "It's exceptional.

"To come into a club like this and to score that number of goals in 100 games it's absolutely brilliant. But it's what he is, he's done it all his life.

"I was talking to him in midweek about when he was at Dundee and he played 60-odd games there and got 30-odd goals so it's what he is.

"He goes into every single game he plays believing he can score and the goal was perfect, the second one, in terms of our build-up play.

"It was a wonderful pass from young Pat (Roberts) to free Griff up to score. So it's an exceptional achievement."

When asked what had happened when he clashed with Scott Brown, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha said: "I just told him, be clear, with me on the pitch you're not giving me (an) elbow. You're not going to be allowed to give me an elbow.

"You do it because you demand everything and everyone allows you to do it but not with me. Loud and clear, loud and clear."
