Barcelona v Juventus: Team news, predictions & odds

Check out our match pack for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Barcelona and Juventus on Wednesday night.

The game kicks off at 1945 BST at the Nou Camp, live on BT Sport 2. Juventus lead 3-0 after the first leg.

Barcelona v Juventus: Our prediction

Tim Clement says: Barcelona have left themselves with another mammoth task to progress in the Champions League, but while the margin is less, the task looks even harder this time round.

Luis Enrique’s men became the first team to overturn a four-goal deficit when they romped to a 6-1 win over PSG at the Nou Camp and need to produce something special again after losing 3-0 in Turin.

However, the visitors this time round are a completely different proposition, with Juve’s abundance of experience and superior backline making them far more equipped at defending a lead.

Their defence has only conceded once on the road in this season’s competition and just twice in total, both from set-pieces, while PSG’s was breached in all of their away group games.

They’ll also be more comfortable with the prospect of facing limited possession in Catalonia, something which PSG desperately struggled with as they had less than 30 percent possession on that fateful night.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side do not need to dominate games in the middle of the park to win them, as illustrated in the first leg when Barca had 68 per cent of the ball.

Juve have an average of 55 percent possession in Serie A, 10 percent less than Barca boast in LaLiga, but it is the visitors who sit eight points clear at the top of their table.

PSG should have killed off the tie with the chances on the counter-attack against a Barca backline, which is unconvincing at best and, once again, Juve are more dangerous in that department, with Gonzalo Higuain supported by rising star Paulo Dybala and the experienced Mario Mandzukic.

Barca also had more time to regroup after the PSG loss but have had just a week to plot their revenge this time round, muddling to a 3-2 home win over Real Sociedad in between the two legs.

All of the above leads me to suggest that Juve will not be blown away and that they’ll almost certainly score against a defence which has conceded seven goals in their last three games.

Higuain may not have netted last Tuesday but he has bagged a brace in his last three league games, making the 2/1 on him to net anytime hold appeal.

Dybala is an even bigger price at 11/4 , also with Sky Bet, but limped off at the weekend, while he has scored 13 goals less than his compatriot this season.

Indeed, with his previous four goals coming from the penalty spot, he hadn’t scored from open play since the middle of February.

All considered, the widely available 5/1 on Juve is tempting but given the state of the tie I'll take them at odds-against with a goal start on the handicap.

Prediction: Barcelona 1-2 Juventus

Barcelona v Juventus: Team news & quotes

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is optimistic his side can pull off another stunning comeback to advance in the Champions League.

The Catalan side looked down and out after losing the first leg of their last-16 tie 4-0 against Paris St Germain in February, but produced a remarkable 6-1 second-leg triumph last month to reach the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition.

They gave themselves another mountain to climb as they suffered a crushing 3-0 loss to Juventus in Turin last Tuesday in the first leg of the last-eight meeting, but Enrique has warned Barca should not be written off just yet.

"We will try right until the end," he said at his pre-match press conference, quoted on www.fcbarcelona.com, ahead of Wednesday's second leg. "Those who experienced the night against PSG at Camp Nou will have another chance to enjoy a historic evening. Right until the 95th minute, we have to be united.

"We have to get the fans involved in our game and our intensity. We need Camp Nou to bounce to experience another special evening.

"Many results at home and the recent comeback against PSG are statistics that invite optimism. We have to create a collective crazy atmosphere so our players can perform at their best.

"We need to intimidate a team like Juventus to the maximum. If we score the first goal, Camp Nou will get the second and the third will come by itself."

Paulo Dybala struck twice in the first half and Giorgio Chiellini added a rare third after the break as Juve claimed a commanding advantage.

Enrique expects the visitors will create more chances to score on Wednesday, so says Barca's approach must be to aim to score five goals.

"The key will be to clinical in front of goal, create chances to dent our rivals' confidence... calm the emotions of our players and attack, attack and keep attacking," he said.

"Our goal is to score five goals."

Javier Mascherano (calf), Arda Turan (groin) and Jeremy Mathieu (ankle) all trained with the squad on Tuesday morning, while Sergio Busquets is available after missing the first leg through suspension.

"Mascherano's recovery is good news," Enrique said. "He is in perfect shape and will be available for (Wednesday).

"Recovering Busi is always great news. He is one of the most tactically intelligent players there is and a key member for us. The more he can do, the better for us."

Barcelona v Juventus: Opta facts

No team has ever overturned a 3-0 first-leg defeat in the Champions League knockout stages in eight previous attempts, although Barcelona managed the biggest ever comeback in the last round by eliminating Paris SG 6-5 on aggregate after a 4-0 first leg defeat.

Juventus’ last trip to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona ended in a 2-1 win, back in April 2003, courtesy of goals from Pavel Nedved and Marcelo Zalayeta. The Turin side later made it to the Champions League final only to lose on penalties to AC Milan.

Barcelona have won their last 15 Champions League games at the Camp Nou (50 goals scored, 7 conceded), all since Luis Enrique took charge. It’s currently the longest run in the competition and two short of the record held by Bayern Munich (16).

Barcelona have scored at least three goals in seven of their last eight Champions League games at the Camp Nou.

However, Barcelona have lost three of their last six Champions League games, as many losses as in their previous 26 games under Luis Enrique.

Barcelona have reached the quarter-finals for the 10th consecutive season, the longest run in the history of the Champions League. However, they have been knocked out at that stage in two of the last three seasons.

Meanwhile, Juventus have made it to the quarter-finals for the third time in the last five Champions League seasons. In that period, no other Italian club has reached the Last 8 of the competition.

After failing to reach the last four of the Champions League from 2003/04 to 2013/14, Juventus now have the chance to make the semis for the second time in the last three seasons (after 2014/15).

Juventus have won their last five games in the Champions League, the current longest run in the competition and the Old Lady’s joint-longest. They are the only unbeaten team this season alongside Real Madrid.

Juventus are also the only team to have won all four of their Champions League away games this season (10 goals scored, 1 conceded), their best ever run of victories on the road in the competition.

On top of that, Juventus haven’t conceded a goal for 441 minutes, also the current longest run in the competition. Sevilla’s Nico Pareja was the last player to find the Turin nets, back in November.

Juventus have conceded fewer goals in the Champions League this season than any of the other seven sides still left in the competition (2 in 9 games). Both of those goals came from set-piece.

Gonzalo Higuain has scored only two goals in 23 Champions League knockout games. In the group stages, he’s netted 13 goals in 38 games.

Meanwhile, Paulo Dybala has scored four goals in as many Champions League knockout games, including a brace in the first leg against Barcelona.

Neymar has scored four goals and delivered five assists in his three Champions League games at Camp Nou this season.
