Shattered Love landed a significant gamble with victory in the JLT Novices' Chase - the opening race on day three of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival.
Fresh from a treble on Tuesday, trainer Gordon Elliott picked up where he left off as the mare Shattered Love landed Grade One glory under teenage rider Jack Kennedy, beating front-running 3/1 favourite Terrefort by a wide margin.
Shattered Love was punted before the off into 4/1 second favourite, having been widely available at 10/1 earlier in the morning and despite making a mistake at the last, always appeared to have her market rival in her sights.
Benatar (10/1) stayed on to fill the places in third.
Shattered Love becomes the first mare to win a top-class novice chase at the Cheltenham Festival for 23 years.
Kennedy said: "She's a super mare and she's only been improving. She does everything so easily. She jumped and travelled great. She's done it very well in the end."
Elliott said: "She's a good, big, tough mare - she looks like she's a gelding. It's brilliant. I can't believe it. We knew she'd stay. She's won two Grade Ones now, so it's brilliant."
Gigginstown House Stud chief Michael O'Leary said: "She's a huge, great mare. The mares' allowance, which I don't always agree with, was very helpful there.
"She's always been a very good jumper - she beat Presenting Percy (RSA winner) at Punchestown earlier in the season. She's just a very good mare. She's built like a gelding, she's really come into her own over fences.
"It's another great training performance from Gordon."
Nicky Henderson said of Terrefort: "He's run a great race and done nothing wrong, just been beaten by a smart mare.
"He's been on the go an awfully long time and he'll get a break now."
Gary Moore said of Benatar: "I think a lack of a recent run probably told. He was very keen early and that has counted against him.
"Even still, he's run a great race and confirmed his form with Finian's Oscar."
