Sporting Life's Best Bets for Sunday
HORSE RACING: Dakota Gold in the 5.20 at York
By Ben Linfoot: Michael Dods' horse has won two of his last four starts and was unlucky not to make that strike-rate even better last time when he just went down to Bacchus at Newmarket. He raced keenly in that race off a steady pace so did really well to finish a short head second, pulling a length-and-a-half clear of a really good yardstick in third. He won despite missing the break the last time he won at York, on similar ground to that he will face on Sunday, and, despite his latest 4lb rise for defeat, he’s taken to regain the winning thread.
FOOTBALL: Leroy Fer to be shown a card in Swansea v Newcastle
By David John: With former Swan Jonjo Shelvey set to make his return to the Liberty Stadium in the heart of midfield, I am going to back Leroy Fer to pick up a card. It is easy to argue that the Dutchman is not afraid to put a foot in when required (two yellows already this season) and what is sure to be an ultra-competitive area of the game, he may not be able to help himself in his quest to gain the upper hand.

DARTS: Joe Cullen to beat Michael Smith at the German Darts Grand Prix
By Chris Hammer: With my 16/1 each-way pick Daryl Gurney safely through to the third round and now second favourite behind MVG following Peter Wright's exit, I'm going to turn my attention to a clash between Joe Cullen and fifth seed Michael Smith. Cullen, who has won two tournaments during what has been a really encouraging season for him so far, looked impressive on Saturday as he posted an average of 108.30, hit four 180s and took out 50% of his double attempts during a 6-3 win over Tony Martinez. Smith, however, survived a match dart in his clash with Jamie Lewis as he sneaked through. Smith's partner is expecting their second child and he even admits "I'm waiting for a message that she's gone into labour!" so there's reason to expect his focus to slip.
NFL: Dede Westbrook to score a TD anytime v Houston
By David John: He has been a rare bright spot in a clunky Jaguars offense during pre-season and the jury very much remains out whether incumbent Blake Bortles will hang on to his job at quarterback. Jax are very well stocked at wide receiver with proven talent in Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns but Westbrook gives them an additional string to their bow and should be backed to find the end zone.
