Straight to Nunthorpe for Mabs Cross

Mabs Cross is to head straight for the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York next month, after connections opted to bypass the William Hill Summer Stakes on the Knavesmire.

Trainer Michael Dods and owner David Armstrong are not inclined to go for Friday's six-furlong Group Three, and will wait instead for the Group One over the minimum trip.

Mabs Cross will therefore try to put the record straight after her agonising defeat by a nose to Alpha Delphini in the same race last year.

"I've discussed it with David Armstrong, and we've decided we didn't really want to drop into a Group Three," Dods told Racing TV.

"We'll probably leave her now and go straight for the Nunthorpe."

Mabs Cross finished an honourable fourth to the brilliant Blue Point in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Dods added: "I'd like to have her fresh and well, and I just think that bit of extra time means we will have her spot on.

"She's come out of Ascot well, and we're looking forward to the rest of the season."
