The booking of Billy Loughnane for Henrietta Knight’s EDUCATOR very much takes the eye and the return to two miles looks in the gelding’s favour.

Formerly trained by William Haggas for The Queen, Educator seemed to stay two miles when a close fourth to Oceanline at Ascot in October 2023 and has been doing most of his racing for current connections at around 1½m. He lost his way a bit for Mick Appleby and originally joined Hen Knight with a view to hurdling, but it was back on the all-weather than he made his breakthrough for the West Lockinge handler, scoring in a 1½m handicap at Lingfield a year ago before following up at Windsor on quick turf from a mark of 77.

He was in the frame on his next two starts before his good run came to an end, but hinted at a revival under a change of tactics at Lingfield last time, finishing seven lengths fifth of nine to Charlie's Choice back at Lingfield and shaping better than the result having done plenty of the donkey work in a race where the hold-up horses came to the fore.

Educator can be slowly away and tends to be ridden patiently in his race, and a reversion to such tactics should suit now stepping up in trip at Kempton. Hen does well when giving her horses a test of stamina, with Moab and Cotswold Cottage both winners stepping up in trip by more than two furlongs in recent times from a very small sample.

On top of that angle, Educator has dropped to a career low mark and is able to take part in a Class 5 handicap for the first time in his career. He’s had a couple of runs back after a break and can have no excuses in a race he really should be winning.

Billy Mill14
Age: 8|  Weight: 9-2| J: Lewis Edmunds| T: B R Millman| OR:  73| CD

Mostawa and King of Fury should ensure a good gallop here and that will be a big help to BILLY MILL, who ended a losing sequence over C&D last time and remains well enough treated on old form to think he can follow up after a 5lb rise.

The eight-year-old was disappointing for much of 2024 and 2025 but has come down a long way in the weights and raced with much more enthusiasm last time than I’d seen for a while.

Previously a winner of better-class all-weather handicaps at Newcastle from marks of 80 and 78, Billy Mill dropped to 68 before scoring here a fortnight ago (replay below).

A 5lb rise is fair enough given the manner of his win over Maid In Chelsea, but it’s more encouraging that he’s already a three-time winner at the track, with his first two wins coming off marks higher than his reassessed rating here.

He hasn't been the easiest to catch right but tends to hold his form when he finds it and has won back-to-back handicaps in the past, all of which augurs well for a big run here.
