Our Punting Pointers duo of Rory Delargy and David Massey are back with two bets for today's action.
1pt win Ivasecret in 4.45 Brighton at 15/2 (Hills – min 13/2)
1pt win Enderman in 5.10 Redcar at 9/4 (General)
One who went into my notebook last time was Ivasecret, who wasn’t far off the places at Kempton on his latest start without rider Richard Kingscote ever getting serious with him, and he was eased close home when it was clear he had no gap to aim for. He’s travelled well, if a little freely, to that point and looked like a horse with more to offer in a similar contest.
Regular rider Charlie Bishop is back on board here, and Ivasecret has fared well with the draw at a distance where high numbers have an advantage, while Bishop has few peers at Brighton, with a record in the last five seasons of 13 wins from 89 rides and a profit to a £10 stake of £444.10. The selection has gained all his wins on the all-weather to date but is correspondingly lower in the ratings on turf and has a rare outing in Class 6 company here.
A big field for this amateur handicap, but once again, the track at Redcar is favouring those who can race on the far rail, which makes it easier to narrow the field. High numbers are unfavoured and those with early speed are best able to get track position with the stalls in the centre meaning the fields are tacking over to the rail soon after the start on the straight track.
Enderman is an obvious starting point being an in-form horse with a top rider booked and he’s arguably the likeliest leader here too. Look closer and the case becomes even clearer. In the past two years he’s had six handicap runs on a flat track over this 6f trip and has posted form figures of 222212, including in a higher grade at Nottingham earlier this month. He’s effective on all ground but his win in that sequence came on ground described as heavy, and the surface at Redcar will be no issue for him. Simon Walker will keep things simple, and the pair are clearly going to be hard to beat dropping in class in a race which is less competitive than the numbers suggest.
