Ben Linfoot has the Thursday best bets from around the tracks including one to come on the card at Lingfield.
NORTON HILL showed up well after four months off at Plumpton last time and he can improve from that and win the Star Sports Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell.
Anthony Honeyball’s horse only weakened into fourth late on last time, shaping very much like he’d come on for the run, and crucially hinting his new mark of 120 isn’t too tough for him.
He’s a strong stayer and likes good ground, so there’s plenty in his favour here.
PUBLICITY likes Lingfield and returning to this track for the Download The Raceday ready App Handicap can see him home in front again.
John Butler’s horse got up here two starts ago and proved he stayed 1m4f in the process, while he responded well to the headgear change with cheekpieces replacing the visor.
He comes here after an encouraging second at Wolverhampton last time and with efirst-time blinkers on he can regain the winning thread in an average heat.
TROPEZ POWER went through last month's Southwell contest with a real air of superiority and while his all-weather rating has gone back up to 88 following that cosy victory, his turf mark remains just 82 and he gets another shot in Class 4 company at York on Friday. Tropez Power has only won one of his 16 runs on the grass but has been a bit unlucky on the odd occasion and was second over a longer trip here last summer when rated 84. Dropping back in trip looks to have sparked him right back to form and he has a favourable draw in stall five. Rattling-quick ground might have been ideal but good going will be fine and it may even dry out a bit more yet as there's nothing threatening in the forecast.
In we go again with the James Fanshawe-trained CRACKSKING, who stuck at it quite well from a prominent position when fancied here last month, despite ultimately looking in need of the run. That first outing since winning well at Newcastle in mid-October should sharpen him up physically (gelded over the winter) and it's no surprise the assessor has left him on a mark of 84. He's got a nice low draw again and could take some pegging back.
With the ground likely to be quick enough for recent Doncaster winner Iron Lion and the returning Fox Journey dropping back significantly in trip, this could be ideal piece of placement for VAYNOR, who has the potential to make all the running which is never a bad thing on the Rowley Mile. There really is very little early pace elsewhere in the race so Cieren Fallon might get something of a freebie and Charlie Hills' five-year-old has been dropped to his last winning mark (82) following a pipe-opener at Epsom late last month.
He's getting on a bit now but FRANCKY DU BERLAIS has come down to a good mark again after winning on unsuitably soft ground for the majority of last season and he'll enjoy the sound surface on offer at Aintree. He's not got his head in front since winning the Summer Plate at Market Rasen a couple of summers ago but showed on a couple of occasions last autumn that he was still capable on a going day and he was second to Latenightpass in the Cross Country Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in December (from 2lb out of the weights), form which gives him major claims in this company.
It could be a good evening for Charlie Johnston at Hamilton and his PERSIAN PHOENIX looks the banker bet on the card in the nine-furlong handicap for three-year-olds. He's yet to add to his novice success at Wolverhampton last June but looked right back on song when returned to a mile at Windsor last month (form looks strong for the grade) and he's been dropped a pound following that to a career-low mark of 64. Bred to improve again now tackling a little further again, he's expected to return to prominent tactics and should take all the beating under Joe Fanning.
