SCOTTISH KING is progressing gradually at this modest level, and comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Market Rasen and Plumpton. He only won narrowly at the latter track but the first two were a distance clear and a 6lb rise for two victories looks very fair.

Richard Armson’s gelding has benefited from being ridden prominently for those victories and although an easy lead is unlikely here, conditions will suit and he looks capable of conceding weight to his rivals.

9/1

The BK Racing Marathon has been rescheduled having originally been slated for the week of the Cheltenham Festival and many of the original declarations have been confirmed again, with the vote going to Micky Hammond’s Shighness, who struggles to win against regular opposition but stays very well and ran her best race under rules when runner-up in the corresponding event 12 months ago. Her campaign this time around looks to have been geared around another bid for Hexham glory and she is worth following having dropped to a lenient mark.

SHIGHNESS had absolutely no chance behind the talented Paggane on her reappearance in November and was similarly out of her depth in 0-125s at Carlisle and Newcastle on her next two starts, but there were signs she was on the way back at Sedgefield (3m3f) last time, plugging away for third behind Ballin Bay over hurdles.

Her travails this term mean she’s 7lb lower than this time last year and maybe she can get the better of likely favourite Planned Paradise, who bounced back to winning ways at Bangor last time but wouldn’t be certain to be in the same form given his overall profile and moderate strike-rate.

3/1

Rod Millman has an excellent record with his runners here, and I was tempted by Safari Dream and Cypriot Diasporo who represent the Devon yard, but neither has any great record fresh and are best watched on their respective returns.

One who does go well fresh and looks to have a big chance at the weights is MR UBIQUITOUS.

Harry Eustace’s charge won here after a 99-day break in October and was off for three months before scoring at Windsor last April. Those wins came at a mile, but three subsequent successes last summer were at tonight’s distance and he can enhance his solid record with track and trip posing no issues.
