Last week was a belter for the Punting Pointers team and today they've got a couple of selections for Ludlow.
Racing betting tips: Monday March 30
1pt win A Little Something in 14:57 Ludlow at 5/1 (General) - min 7/2
1pt win Annsam in 15:57 Ludlow at 13/2 (General) - min 5/1
14:57 Ludlow
Six winners from her last 10 runners show that Emma Lavelle is a trainer to note at present and she runs two in this handicap chase. The more obvious one is Kit’s Coty who has been largely consistent in recent runs but jockey bookings suggest that it should pay to take particular note of A LITTLE SOMETHING, ridden by Ben Jones, who has an excellent record for the stable.
It’s easy to brush the selection off after she was pulled up on chase debut at Leicester, but she slipped on landing at the eleventh fence there having raced prominently and was immediately eased out of the race by Rex Dingle who was looking after her for another day.
Lavelle has trained a couple of winners recently who had been pulled-up on their previous start, notably Watamu, who won at Stratford on Saturday having failed to finish in the valuable EBF Mares’s Finale at Newbury just seven days previously, and I would not be too downbeat about that latest form figure.
A Little Something is fairly treated based on her best form over hurdles, and is on the same mark as when headed close home by course specialist Eliza Doolittle at Plumpton last April. The winner has scored again since off a higher mark and A Little Something will appreciate getting back on a sounder surface after tackling a testing surface at Leicester.
15:57 Ludlow
Cath Williams has coped well with the difficult circumstances that have seen her taking over the running of husband Evan’s yard at Llancarfan, and she can add to her gains courtesy of likeable veteran ANNSAM.
Annsam failed to complete at Kempton last Monday through no fault of his own, with Gustavian’s tumble in front of him causing him to unseat, and Ludlow is very much a happy hunting ground for the gelding, with form figures here reading 21131. Sean Bowen retains the ride and he could take some pegging back if getting into an early rhythm.
Your Darling is the one to beat on paper, but the 11-year-old is the type who often travels very well only to find nothing off the bridle, and the lengthy run from the last (with the water jump bypassed) is likely to count against him. He’s one for the in-running fraternity.
A third trainer who comes to Ludlow on a roll is Harry Fry, whose last ten runners over hurdles have yielded five winners, including High Fibre, who seemed to benefit from a drop to a bare two miles when winning with some authority in a conditional riders’ handicap hurdle at Kempton last week
Ludlow is also flat and right-handed and with the distance of this race just shy of two miles, there is no reason to think he cannot follow up from an unchanged mark. Ciaran O’Shea is again in the plate, which is another positive.
D Day Arvalenreeva could prove his main danger despite some uninspiring form figures. The daughter of Mastercraftsman has stamina limitations over hurdles but is a C&D winner and has been kept fit since joining Nick Scholfield by running creditably on the all-weather, and she is another who will appreciate getting away from soft ground, which taxes her.
