David Massey previews a couple of races from Plumpton and he's backing Anthony Honeyball to continue his good run of form.
Racing betting tips: Monday February 9
1.5pts win Ferret Jeeter in 14:15 at Plumpton at 4/1 (General) - minimum 3/1
14:15 Plumpton
FERRET JEETER catches the eye here having just looked in need of the run on his return from absence at Fontwell in December.
That came over 2m5f but his failure to see things out had nothing to do with a lack of stamina and his best form came when winning over3m at Ffos Las in June under today’s rider, Chad Bament. His Fontwell run was his first after wind surgery and this may be the best time to catch him.
Ferret Jeeter is up against opponents that have a bit to prove; there are stamina worries for both Ami Bondhu and particularly Madjovy, and while I was with Godot when he was second at Lingfield last time, the logic there was his good record at around 2½m and his efforts at three miles have seen him well beaten.
Blade Runner would need to return to form in reapplied headgear, which he may, but you have to go back to May 2023 for his last creditable effort over hurdles.
That leaves Pachacuti as the danger, and while he comes from a stable in form, he’s pulled up on four of his last eight starts and hasn’t won a race in almost two years. All in all, I’ll be disappointed if Ferret Jeeter isn’t good enough to win.
15:15 Plumpton
It’s not that easy to make a case for Alto Alto on recent form, but Plumpton is very much a specialists’ circuit and Chris Gorddon’s gelding has a course record of 116 112615, improving to 1111 on soft or heavy ground. On top of that, he has won this race for the last two seasons, and he comes here after a similar build-up to last year.
Alto Alto was beaten a total of 110 lengths in three previous starts in 2024/25 before landing a gamble here, and this time he comes in search of a hat-trick after two runs where he has been beaten 81 lengths. That would normally be a red flag, but is no great concern here given the patterns in his form, and to add to that notion, he’s again wearing a visor here having raced in cheekpieces on his most recent outing. The cherry on top is that he’s now 3lb lower than for his most recent win and does look like he’s been laid out for this race all winter.
