Our star daily duo of Rory Delargy and David Massey look ahead to today's action and have two bets.
Racing betting tips: Tuesday January 20
1pt win Razzle Dazzle Boy in the 15:02 Leicester at 10/3 (General, min 3/1)
1pt e.w Nine Nine Nine in the 15:32 Leicester at 7/1 (General, take no lower)
Tigers Moon is the obvious starting point here as he’s progressive since sent handicapping, finishing third at Market Rasen to a mare who went on to win two of her next three and himself successful on two of three starts since. He’s been well placed by Tom Ellis, starting odds-on for all of those recent races, and he could progress again. On the negative side, while the handicapper took a while to spot him, a 10lb rise for beating Shan’t Wait at Southwell is stiff enough on the face of it and that rival was beaten again last time while running his race.
Tigers Moon faces better rivals here than he has before as a rule, and he may find topweight RAZZLE DAZZLE BOY tough to beat on today’s terms. Tim Vaughan’s gelding ran his best race to date when second to Another Fine Mess at Chepstow last time and is gradually progressive himself, his defeat two starts back coming when appearing not to stay over further. There is just 4lb between he and Tigers Moon when their rider’s claims are taken into account, and Razzle Dazzle Boy’s recent efforts have come in much more competitive races than Tigers Moon has been winning, for example winning a handicap hurdle at Sandown last season from Fasol, whose two wins since include a televised handicap hurdle at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day (Hogmaneigh for Scottish readers) before a good fourth in the Lanzarote. That shows that Razzle Dazzle Boy can mix it with better horses and while he may not have won since Sandown, he has improved in defeat since, and drops in class here. He may just have too much class for the likeable Tigers Moon at this point of their careers.
Kapamazov is more than capable of winning a handicap chase off his current mark having been placed on both starts since joining Laura Morgan from James Evans. On the other hand, Kapamazov has been looking capable at this level for some time and yet boasts a record under rules of zero wins from 19 runs. I’m sure he will run again here with an extra couple of furlongs sure to help after he was outpaced over 2½m here last time, but marginal preference is for Leicester specialist NINE NINE NINE, who has little form left-handed but a pretty good record when going clockwise, particularly here where his record reads U1133332.
Nine Nine Nine ran poorly at Uttoxeter last time, but that’s no concern, as he bounced back from a poor run there when a fine second over C&D last month, and he’s taken to do the same here. He split a pair of unexposed five-year-olds from big yards when runner-up here in December and a repeat of that run will give him every chance in what looks a weaker contest. He’s not one to go overboard about but will be overpriced due to his stable and that Uttoxeter effort, and merits a bet at double-figure odds given his solid course record.
