9/1

I’m willing to give CRACKERJACK QUEEN another try after a perfectly solid chasing debut at Southwell last month, for all she perhaps didn’t find what she looked like she might after the last.

She jumped and travelled into the contest well, and looked a threat two out, only to find the in-form Ceolwulf too good for her, but all the same, that was a much improved effort on anything she had done previously. She’s been nudged up a couple of pounds for it, but that still leaves her 7lb below her initial handicap mark, and she ought to be fully fit now after a couple of runs back after a break. Having jumped around Southwell without issue, she should find Worcester’s portable fences no problem at all.

15:55 Worcester - 2m Handicap Hurdle

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-13| J: R T Dunne| T: D Elsworth & Ryan Hatch| OR:  97| D
9/2

AL MOOTAMARID was a useful performer on the Flat for Marco Botti back in 2024 and whilst he might not be capable of those heights any more, he still knows how to win when the chance arises, and after an eyecatching effort over C&D last time out, this could be his chance to poke his head in front again.

Settled well in midfield, he was just starting to get involved in the contest when he found the gap he wanted closing on him as they approached three out, causing him to get shuffled back and make a small mistake in the process. After the last, it was deja vu all over again, as he found a wall of horses in front of him as he tried to make another challenge, but once out and in the clear, ran on well to claim third, looking like there was a bit left in the tank.

Assuming a bit better luck in running today, he has every chance of making amends.

14:40 Thirsk – Class 6 (0-55) Handicap 6f

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-5| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby| OR:  50| D
9/1

A poor handicap to get stuck into, but the big field at a track that has a draw bias to those racing near the stands rail means the field is easily narrowed down. BARMYBLADE wasn’t helped by a tardy start on his penultimate run but was always up with the pace at Ripon last time, posting a decent effort to be a length second to What A Tahoo in a similar contest to this. It’s taken him a couple of runs to regain his form this term, but he’s now on a workable mark and knows how to win having bagged a brace over this trip at Ripon last summer to add to his reappearance success at Catterick, and he seemed to benefit markedly from the fitting of cheekpieces last time.

Barmyblade is a whopping 9lb below his last winning mark and back to the mark off which he won his first handicap last season, making him look dangerously well handicapped; once Tim Easterby’s sprinters run into form, they tend to stay in form for a while, so a big run is anticipated from an excellent draw in stall 15.
