Our Punting Pointers team landed a 25/1 winner at Newmarket yesterday and return to the track with another Sunday selection.
0.5pts e.w. Camilla’s Choice in the 2:35 Stratford at 22/1 (Hills 1/5 1,2,3,4 – min 18/1)
0.5pts e.w. Royal Musketeer in the 5:15 Newmarket at 20/1 (Spreadex, Sporting Index 1/5 1,2,3,4 – min 18/1)
It might just be that Camilla’s Choice has had enough racing, in which case we’ll end up doing our money again, but equally there’s a chance that, back on better ground and with her trainer having winners for fun at present, that this might be the day to catch her.
She ran out an easy winner at Bangor last August, looking like stamina was her long suit, and this extended trip should be right up her street. Since then, she’s disappointed on subsequent runs, but all three of those came on winter ground, which she doesn’t seem to want, and as such she’s now only a pound higher than that winning Bangor mark.
Two more winners for Gary Hanmer at Uttoxeter last night means he’s already had more winners through the last two months than he had in the previous eight put together, and he clearly has his horses in great fettle at present.
Two horses appeal here based on their C&D form, with the more obvious of the pair being Outrun The Storm, who has two wins and a second from three runs on a sound surface over the seven furlongs of Newmarket’s July course. On the last of those runs, he had Royal Musketeer back in third and is strictly weighted to confirm form despite the latter getting an 8lb pull at the weights.
Royal Musketeer also has a good course record, but even better when concentrating on the Rowley Mile course, where he has a win and a second in two runs, both in this corresponding race. A winner of this in 2022 from a mark of 76, he was beaten a length by Lord Rapscallion last year from a BHA mark of 73, and rocks up for a third attempt rated another 6lb lower on the back of three below-par all-weather runs.
Royal Musketeer goes well fresh, being beaten just over a length at 40/1 on his 2022 return and coming here after a break of five months. He’s been rested for ten weeks since disappointing at Southwell in March, and should be ready to fire with this race clearly a target given his past record.
