BETTRENDS SELECTION: CLAN DES OBEAUX

While many see this year’s King George as a match between Cyrname and Lostintranslation, CLAN DES OBEAUX comes out best on the trends, and he can become the 13th multiple winner of the Boxing Day showpiece, since Pendil won back-to-back renewals in 1972 and 1973. Proven on the track and over the trip, seven of the past 12 winners had run in the King George the previous season and he can provide Paul Nicholls with an 11th win in the race.

Nicholls is also responsible for market leader Cyrname who has a course win to his name, but needs to prove his stamina and the deteriorating weather will make that increasingly more difficult. Last year’s winner was the first in 20 years to arrive at Kempton without previously having been successful over 3m.

The main danger, therefore, could come from Lostintranslation, who has yet to run at Kempton, but is not short of tactical speed and there is, therefore, no reason to believe that he won’t handle the track. 11 of the past 14 winners contested the Betfair Chase at Haydock and Colin Tizzard’s seven-year-old ran out an impressive winner on Merseyside last month.
