Tom Marquand expects Almeraq to be back to his best in Saturday’s Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock
William Haggas’ charge won his first two starts this term including the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and looked set to be challenging for champion sprinter honours.
However he could finish only ninth in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup next time although his jockey is happy to draw a line through that performance.
“We felt we had pretty big excuses to be fair in track, ground and the race had a very different make-up too,” he told Sky Sports Racing.
“I rode him this morning and he felt awesome and hopefully he can replicate that Ascot run. A bit of rain is due at Haydock, I think they’re already soft, and that should suit. I’m really looking forward to him.”
