Mings seals late winner for Villa

Tyrone Mings' last-gasp winner lifted Aston Villa out of the relegation zone and ended Watford's recent revival in dramatic style.

The defender grabbed a fortunate deflection on Ezri Konsa's shot in the fifth minute of stoppage time with virtually the last touch of the game to snatch a 2-1 victory.

Douglas Luiz had earlier come off the bench to level in the second half, just as Villa looked like they would be plunged into further trouble.

It cancelled out Troy Deeney's opener as Watford's six-match unbeaten in the top flight was ended.

Victory - just Villa's third in 11 Premier League outings - moved them up to 16th and two points clear of the drop zone while the Hornets slipped back into the bottom three.

Bournemouth end torrid run with much-needed victory

Bournemouth celebrate Callum Wilson's strike in their much-needed Premier League win over Brighton

Bournemouth eased some of the pressure on manager Eddie Howe with a crucial 3-1 win over Brighton.

The Cherries' woeful recent form has raised questions about Howe's future for the first time in his 11 years in the dugout.

But strikes from Harry Wilson and Callum Wilson, either side of a Pascal Gross own goal, secured a much-needed win to lift Bournemouth to 18th, level on points with West Ham and safety.

It was a victory which also illustrated that the players are still playing for the manager who guided the club all the way up from League Two.

A run of just four points from a possible 36 would have had most clubs reaching for the axe by now, but Howe still has credit in the bank.

It certainly appeared a good time to be playing Brighton, who have never won a Premier League match in January, or away from home on a Tuesday.

Super sub Aguero scores as Man City dig in at Sheff United

Sergio Aguero: Manchester City forward celebrates late winner at Sheffield United

Manchester City needed to call on Sergio Aguero to see off a spirited Sheffield United side 1-0 as Aymeric Laporte made his long-awaited return to action at Bramall Lane.

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the Blades in the build up to the match and on Tuesday night it was clear to see why.

Chris Wilder's side went toe-to-toe with the reigning Premier League champions for much of the match, even if they needed Dean Henderson to keep them in it on occasions.

The on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper saved a 36th-minute penalty from Gabriel Jesus and saved well to deny Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi, before substitute Aguero scored in the 73rd minute to give City victory.

Ten-man Arsenal seal late point at Chelsea

Hector Bellerin: Arsenal defender scores a late equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Hector Bellerin earned 10-man Arsenal a 2-2 Premier League draw at Chelsea as the red-carded David Luiz endured a wretched Stamford Bridge return.

Gunners skipper Bellerin equalised three minutes after opposing captain Cesar Azpilicueta thought he had claimed a victory for Chelsea with a neat late finish.

Azpilicueta turned home Callum Hudson-Odoi's cross with six minutes to play to spark delirium in Stamford Bridge as Frank Lampard's men took a 2-1 lead.

Jorginho coolly converted his second penalty in three matches after Luiz was sent off for hauling down Tammy Abraham just when the Chelsea striker was about to tap into an empty net.

Gabriel Martinelli pounced on a rare N'Golo Kante error to drag Arsenal level after the break however, and for large swathes this match appeared destined for a 1-1 draw despite Arsenal playing with 10 men since the 26th minute.

Azpilicueta and Bellerin thought differently, but in the eventual, breathless shake-up, Chelsea will wind up by far the more frustrated.

Shkodran Mustafi's woeful backpass left Bernd Leno stranded at the top of the night. But rather than see his side concede, Luiz took out Abraham and sacrificed himself.

He trudged down the tunnel to the strains of the Chelsea fans sarcastically singing "David Luiz, he's one of our own".

Chelsea will be left to rue not turning that numerical advantage into a comfortable victory for some time to come.

Lejeune's injury-time double rescues Newcastle at Everton

Florian Lejeune: Newcastle defender scores the first of two late goals against Everton

Substitute Florian Lejeune scored twice in added time as Newcastle snatched the unlikeliest of 2-2 draws at Everton to spoil Moise Kean's celebrations after his first goal for the club.

The Toffees were cruising deep into four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the second half thanks to goals from Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin but threw away the three points with some comical defending which stunned the majority of Goodison Park.

Steve Bruce's side were barely in the game - they had managed just one shot on target - when Lejeune flicked home an overhead kick.

There were possibly 90 seconds left at that point and the home side should have killed off the game, having controlled so much of it, but panicked and when the visitors pressed forward Lejeune forced home his second in a goalmouth scramble.

It ruined what should have been Kean's night after the striker finally produced the performance Goodison Park had been waiting for.

Southampton bounce back from Wolves defeat

Southampton continued their revival with a 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace which saw them leapfrog the hosts and make it six wins from their last eight games in all competitions.

Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong were on target for Ralph Hasenhuttl's team, who are now 10th in the Premier League table and eight points ahead of the bottom three.

Palace's five-match unbeaten run in the division came to an end in disappointing fashion with Roy Hodgson's men unable to cope with the energy or movement of the visitors at Selhurst Park.
