Having nailed 7/1 and 12/1 winners from his four Wimbledon bets so far, Tim Clement provides his tips for the men's quarter-finals.
Best bet: Wimbledon, Day 9
Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic and Andy Murray all to win in straight-sets – 10.5/1
By Tim Clement
I must confess that I was hardly enthused when I finally settled down to write Tuesday's tips at 10pm after nine hours of blogging 'Manic Monday' thanks to Rafael Nadal's stubbornness.
However, it’s often the bets that jump straight out at you which are the best and fortunately that was the case, with Johanna Konta completing a 12/1 treble after Gabrine Muguruza and Venus Williams had complied with straight-sets wins.
I’m pleased to say that we have another obvious selection to kick off our men’s quarter-final acca, with an odds-against bet on one of the most one-sided rivalries in sport.
Novak Djokovic has won a remarkable 25 out of 27 contests with Tomas Berdych, dropping a solitary set in their last 12 meetings.
Despite that record, we can get 11/8 with various bookmakers for the Serb to win in straight-sets again, a price which is too good to turn down despite his slump since completing the career Grand Slam.
Indeed, there’s a temptation to run through the card and back all four favourites to win in straight-sets on Wednesday at just shy of 25/1.
However, I’m going to swerve Roger Federer’s contest with Milos Raonic given their competitive head-to-head record, with the Canadian winning their last two meetings and the first set in six of their 12 matches.
Andy Murray is the man who I usually look at to win in four, but the world No 1 has won seven of his eight clashes with Sam Querrey, dropping a solitary set in his wins.
Marin Cilic completes the treble having cruised through to the quarter-finals without dropping a set, while he has also won both of his matches with Gilles Muller.
The last was a three-setter at Queen’s this year but I can’t see how the 34-year-old can be anywhere near his best after four hours and 47 minutes of action against Nadal, while I also believe in opposing players on the back of causing major upsets.
Djokovic, Murray and Cilic all to win in straight-sets is best priced at odds in excess of 10/1 with William Hill, enough to keep us interested in a day which should set us up with a mouthwatering semi-final line-up.
