Oxford beat Cambridge 38-16 in the Varsity Match

Oxford scored five tries as they cruised to a 38-16 victory over Cambridge in the Varsity Match at Twickenham.

The Dark Blues denied Cambridge a hat-trick of wins in the fixture as fly-half Tom Humberstone led the way through an 18-point haul.

Humberstone scored a try and kicked five conversions and a penalty, while Dan Barley touched down twice and Barley's fellow wing Tom Stileman also crossed, along with flanker Charlie Pozniak.

Former Saracens back Ben Ransom inspired an impressive Oxford attacking game, and Cambridge had no answer.

Light Blues skipper Nick Koster scored a consolation try, and fly-half Mike Phillips, who was sin-binned in the second half, booted three penalties, with Chris Bell adding a conversion.

Cambridge, meanwhile, won the women's Varsity Match as they followed up their victory last season with an 8-5 Twickenham triumph.

Number eight Emily Pratt scored a first-half try for the Light Blues, with Alice Edgar adding a penalty to open up an eight-point lead, and Oxford could not claw it back despite a late touchdown from lock Katie Collis.
