Zach Mercer signs Bath contract extension

Flanker Zach Mercer has signed a two-year contract extension with Gallagher Premiership club Bath.

Bath announced that the 21-year-old England squad member's deal will keep him at the Recreation Ground until at least 2021.

Mercer, a former England Under-20 captain, lined up for an England XV against the Barbarians at Twickenham in May.

He has made 38 appearances for Bath and started last week's Premiership season opener at Bristol.

"Zach is a huge talent, and we are really pleased to have secured his future with the club," Bath rugby director Todd Blackadder told the club's official website.

"Over the last two years, he has worked incredibly hard at all the aspects of his game. This has paid dividends and is clear to see in his dominant performances.

"With the likes of Toby (Faletau) and Francois (Louw), he has got some of the best players to learn from, and I'm sure he will continue to thrive in this environment over the next three years."
