Memorable Magic Weekend Matches

BRADFORD 38-42 LEEDS - 2007

First up is arguably the most controversial match ever played at the Magic Weekend as Bradford and Leeds battled out a thrilling 80 minutes that saw just as many points scored at the Millennium Stadium. The Bulls led 38-36 with less than a minute remaining before referee Steve Ganson awarded Leeds a penalty for offside against Matt Cook, despite the fact a loose offload came off a Rhinos player. Kevin Sinfield's penalty attempt from 40 metres hit the upright but bounced kindly for the chasing Jordan Tansey who scored under the posts. Although replays clearly showed Tansey was stood in an offside position, the try was awarded regardless without reference to the video referee. Ganson later apologised publicly to Bradford for his calls.

LEEDS 34-30 WAKEFIELD - 2010

Another match that involved the Rhinos, this time against fellow West Yorkshire club Wakefield. Leeds pulled off a superb comeback at Murrayfield to break the Wildcats' hearts and move into the Super League play-off positions after a poor run of form. The Rhinos trailed 28-10 after 35 minutes following two tries from Damien Blanch and further scores from Tevita Leo-Latu, Paul Johnson and Ben Jeffries. But inspired by a hat-trick from Ryan Hall, Leeds stormed back and further efforts from Brent Webb, Chris Clarkson and Danny Buderus were enough to help Leeds snatch a crucial win.

HULL 30-32 HULL KR - 2012

Moving on to a Hull derby, the 2012 clash between these two clubs was truly magical. The Black and Whites led 30-16 with 67 minutes played thanks to tries from Brett Seymour, Richard Horne, Willie Manu, Tony Martin and Jordan Turner. But the Robins fought back in style and, with seconds remaining, David Hodgson sprinted 70 metres for his second try to steal the points. However, Hull fans will remember this for Michael Dobson's controversial try, the half-back taking in an offload from Rhys Lovegrove to dive over that was clearly forward on replay.

LEEDS 16-20 WIGAN - 2013

Another battle of two Super League giants saw Leeds face Wigan for the very first time in this fixture. The Warriors eventually came out on top thanks to tries from Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards and Josh Charnley. Leeds provided a fight and may have felt hard done by not to claim a draw. Tries from Sinfield, Kallum Watkins and Joe Vickery took the match to the wire before Danny McGuire had a try chalked off for obstruction.

WAKEFIELD 25-24 CATALANS DRAGONS - 2016

This match will be remembered for Jacob Miller's 50-metre drop-goal. With the match level at 24-24, Miller surprised all by stepping up and slotting over a one-pointer from halfway in the dying minutes to steal the victory, their first at Magic Weekend since 2012. Wakefield had bounced back from trailing 14-0 early on to lead 18-14. A second try from Jodie Broughton and a touchdown by Vincent Duport regained the advantage for the Dragons, but former Catalans forward Mickael Simon levelled the scores before Miller's brilliance. Richards' poor kicking proved costly, the Australian missing three conversions and a penalty.
