Warrington's England forward Ben Currie has been ruled out of the rest of the 2018 season after being told he needs another knee reconstruction.
The 23-year-old second rower missed the first five months of the 2017 campaign after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament the previous September and limped out of last Saturday's 54-6 Challenge Cup win over Bradford after hurting the same knee.
After going for scans on Monday, Currie was sent to a specialist in London on Thursday and his worst fears were confirmed.
Warrington coach Steve Price broke the new after his team's 38-4 Betfred Super League win over Huddersfield on Friday night.
"Ben is going in for an ACL operation on Wednesday," Price said. "Ben won't play again this year, it's unfortunate but he'll come back bigger and stronger, he's got many years left."
