BEST BET: Antigua Sands (T4, 7.49 Hove)

NEXT BEST: Nice Mystery (T1, 7.33 Hove)

TREBLE: Deep Pockets (T3, 8.06 Hove)

By Chris Oliver

The top-class racing is coming thick and fast at the minute and the Sussex Cup is the latest Category One event to get underway with six heats at Hove tonight.

Sporting Dave touched off Trade Fudge in a thrilling final last year and they clash again in heat two at 7.03, with the promising Sidaz Jet and Towstar Freddie adding further spice to the race and that red-hot contest could be one to avoid for punting purposes.

The fifth heat is also a quality affair, with Olympic winner King Turbo and Seaglass Phantom lining up against Antigua Sands (T4), but the latter has really taken to this venue and is fancied to kick off her campaign with a victory at 7.49.

A finalist in the Comerford Cakes Puppy 525 at Shelbourne in December, the daughter of Ballymac Vic is now with Mark Wallis and won both her starts here last month, including when hacking up by nearly five lengths in a pleasing 29.98 over this trip last time out.

She ticked over with a smart 29.85 trial last week and could have too much early speed for these rivals.

It could pay to side with another bitch against the boys at 7.33 as Nice Mystery (T1) is taken to complete a course four-timer.

She contested the Irish Oaks final last year and has won all three starts since switching to Matt Dartnall's kennel, showing scintillating early dash to romp home over 490m on each occasion. This longer run to the bend should mean she can pace up into a healthy lead in the red jacket and stamina isn't expected to be a problem.

Seamus Cahill has got Deep Pockets (T3) in cracking form at present and he could be the value play in the last heat at 8.06.

Following a fine half-length second to Trade Fudge, he stayed on well to touch off Itsur Mate when a gutsy winner in 29.97 (calculated) over this C&D last time out and still appears to be improving.

Brinkleys Poet is likely to be popular in the red jacket but hasn't been firing on all cylinders since returning from injury and could be worth taking on with the local dog in the white jacket, who can do it both ways.
