There are just a dozen left in the Star Sports, ARC & LPS Derby but it remains wide open and we have two cracking semi-finals on our hands at Nottingham tonight, live on RPGTV.

It is still 7/2 the field with Irish Derby runner-up Magical Bale (T2) and defending champion Dorotas Wildcat vying for favouritism and the Kevin Hutton-trained duo clash in the first semi at 8.48, with both arriving on a four-timer after three consecutive dominant victories each in the recent weeks.

The former has improved on the clock with each outing so far and looks to be really coming to the boil at the right time, posting a joint-fastest of the competition sectional of4.88 a week and he is one of the few in the event with the pace to hold his aforementioned kennelmate to the corner. It could prove crucial that he is drawn inside Dorotas Wildcat, as well as fellow speedsters Ballyanne Sim (Irish Derby winner) and Priceless Blake, and he can secure the all-important first run in the blue jacket.

Given that Dorotas Wildcat got loose a week ago, Jaytee Taylor (T6) ran a blinder to get within a length of him at the line and he could represent the value in the second semi at 9.05.

Queen Beyonce maintained her unbeaten recorded with a gutsy victory over Clonbrien Prince last Saturday and they can put the pace to the race, with either of those market principals likely to be hard to catch if getting loose. However, those neighbours could do each other no favours in a battle for the lead and it may be set up for Jaytee Taylor to swoop out wide.

Like his 2016 Derby-winning kennelmate Jaytee Jet, Paul Hennessy's charge packs a powerful finish and could be coming into his own as we reach the business end of the premier Classic as he continues to improve on the clock.

He produced his best break so far when turning much closer to the pace than in previous rounds in the quarter-finals and a similar effort can see him enter the back straight in a handy pitch tonight, before going through his impressive gears.

Four competitions get underway on a fantastic card at Colwick Park and punters can get off to a flyer by siding with Droopys Carat (T4) in the opener at 7.07, heat one of the RPGTV Puppy Trophy over 500m.

Angela Harrison's youngster was narrowly held by the reopposing Bockos Rory at Monmore last time out, but he was a very unlucky loser having found plenty of trouble early doors and again on the run in, so looked the one to take out of that race.

He moved well in a 480m trial here earlier in the week and should get a nice run to the corner with Bockos Doomie likely to be edging left on his inside, which could also do Bockos Rory no favours.
