BEST BET: Chubbys Caviar (T5, 4.07 Henlow)

NEXT BEST: Kiltrea Mike (T1, 5.47 Henlow)

TREBLE: Stringer Bell (T5, 2.48 Henlow)

By Richard Wilson

The £2,500 Bedfordshire Oaks final looks to be the best betting event of the afternoon, and Mark Wallis can take home first prize with Chubbys Caviar (T5) fancied to run a big race at 4.07.

An easy scorer against a decent yardstick in the shape of Kanturk Repeat here in the semi-final seven days ago, the April ’16 bitch is improving at a rate of knots, and did well to get through her heat against the classy Tea For Tess a fortnight ago.

Kanturk Repeat is drawn next door once more, albeit in the striped jacket this time, but she will need to trap better in order to be competitive and the percentage call is to go for Wallis’ two-year-old.

It could be another decent weekend for the champion trainer, who will also expect another big run from Kiltrea Mike (T1) at 5.47 after his thumping success against kennelmate Cincinnati over course and distance last week.

The Aero Majestic dog had threatened a performance like that for quite some time following an eyecatching effort behind Rylane Dash (who he then got the better of seven days later), and this trip seems to have brought the best out of the three-year-old.

Jetstream Lynx will pose a big threat in trap five, but she is more exposed over marathon trips and needs to bounce back from a poor run here in the semi-finals of the Bedfordshire Oaks last week.

Earlier in the card, Stringer Bell (T5) is a model of consistency and the local greyhound makes plenty of appeal in the Henlow Mini at 2.48.

Versatile in regards to trip and with six wins from his last seven starts, his blistering middle pace can take him clear down the far side and it will take a big performance to deny him thereafter.
