The Champion Stakes continues at Romford and we have three selections in each of the semi-finals to try and make a successful start to a busy weekend of sport.

Our main fancy of the evening runs in the first heat of the evening at 8.37, and it would be a surprise if Murrys Act (T6) wasn’t very competitive following his easy win in the first round seven days ago.

Kevin Boon’s charge sets the standard as a former Derby finalist and the son of Tullymurry Act looked to thrive here over this 575m distance, cruising clear in a competitive race back in the striped jacket last week.

A solid start would see the two-year-old have a dream run on the outside and he has the gears to put this opposition to the sword and progress to the final next week for his enthusiastic connections.

Starring Storm (T3) was unlucky enough to bump into Murrys Act last week but he faces rivals of no such quality this time and could frank the form in the final knockout stage at 9.09.

Seamus Cahill’s charge and the winner pulled well clear of the third and it could be argued by some that he would have given Murrys Act plenty to think about but for a poor run at the first bend.

He is another that has looked suited by this extra distance and his earlier season form, including when finishing fourth in the Sussex Cup, entitles him to plenty of respect in competitions such as this.

Our final bet of the evening runs in the middle race at 8.53 with Stand Alone (T4) fancied to continue his recent good form and make the final at least.

Chasing a fifth successive victory, he claimed the shock scalp of Roswell Romanov a fortnight ago before proving those exertions to be no fluke when booking his place in this line-up last Friday.

The Ballymac Eske dog impressed with his early speed on that occasion and a switch to the black jacket shouldn’t pose him any issues if he can get past the pair on his outside.
