Dogs expert Aoife Corrigan has four selections for Saturday's action at Curraheen Park.
7.37 – Trap 4 Flashing Willow
8.41 – Trap 1 Bockos Melody
9.29 – Trap 2 Good Cody
9.45 – Trap 1 Wi Can Dream
The 2022 running of the Laurels Final takes place on Saturday night in Curraheen Park with an incredible supporting card on offer and I have four selections that I fancy throughout the card.
The first of them is running at 7.37 and it's Trap 4 Flashing Willow, who will be the banker for many on the card. He has exceptional pace to the opening bend and if showing his usual early speed should go well. Trap 2 Skylight Blake must be respected having won 32 previous races and has gone faster than the favourite in the past, but Flashing Willow will flash the lids and can make all.
The 8.41 is an open 575 and I am siding with Trap 1 Bockos Crystal. This lady is flying in recent weeks, has massive pace, starts and stays and I think if she leads, she will be hard passed. Trap 3 Magical Mary is a hugely pacey bitch who is returning from a lay-off and trials would suggest she is flying, but if Bockos Crystal can put the inside to best use she can win again.
My third selection is in the Laurels Final itself which is due off at 9.29, and what an incredible line-up we have for it. Graham Holland is the most successful trainer in the last 10 years, winning this three times, and he is doubly represented in the final, but I am going to side with Trap 2 Good Cody.
He is a top-class sort who is well drawn on the inside, next to a slow starter. If he can produce a slick exit from the traps, I think he can score. Trap 1 Ballymac Whispa was hugely impressive in the semi-finals but she is devoid of early and will need luck thereafter, so I am siding with the early pace of Good Cody to flash the lids and make all.
My final selection runs in the 9.45 which is an Open 550 where I am siding with Trap 1 Wi Can Dream, who was disappointing the last day but if repeating his October 15 run will give himself a chance. Trap 4 Romeo Magico is the English Derby winner and his trials have been impressive and he possibly is the one they need to beat but I think if Wi Can Dream can put his best paw forward, he can return to winning ways.
